HP: Of course, it did. You know what is lovely? I’ve always played straight characters and the thing is, I’ve got natural swagger (laughing). I think I’ve got the swagger of a gay girl and I always suppressed that when I’ve tried straight roles and so for me, Sam was the easiest character to play. It was just like, let’s put my flat shoes, let’s swagger, lets’ stand with my legs apart with hands in the pockets.

B&TF: The uniform.
HP: You know, people keep saying uniform but she never wears uniform, she wears plain clothes.
B&TF: I guess it’s because you always dressed so proper in suits.
HP: Yeah, yeah, it’s all those waist coats.
B&TF: And some people don’t know how detective sergeants are dressed.
HP: I have most influence, I picked my outfits completely. This shirt I’m wearing now, which I won’t say where they are from until they sponsor me (laughing) but I was wearing these shirts anyway so when we went to do the costume fit, I just said, “I want this brand of shirts, I want these waist coats, I want these trousers.” It actually takes days to go shopping for a character but it took my costume lady about two hours (laughing). She was absolutely thrilled. So I always knew how I wanted to dress and how I wanted it. It was a pleasure, an absolute pleasure to play it.

B&TF: So the second season was announced. Any spoilers you can reveal or how do you want your character to develop?
HP: All I can say is that they basically made Sam one of the leads for series two and I’m no longer in a supporting role.
B&TF: It was inevitable that “Lip Service” would be compared to “The L Word.” It was a groundbreaking series and then “Lip Service” came along, and of course, there’s character comparison, like Frankie and Shane. Anyone compared Sam to an “L Word” character?
HP: You know, they haven’t, weirdly.
B&TF: Do you see yourself as someone on “The L Word”?
HP: I don’t think there’s anyone like Sam. If you were talking about the way someone dresses then she’d be like a Bette character in that kind of power dressing thing, but I don’t think she’s like Bette at all. There’s more honestly to Sam than it is to Bette. I don’t think Sam would be anyone who’s unfaithful. I think she wears her heart on a sleeve and commits, she’s a really good girl.
B&TF: What about Tasha?

FYI… Ruta Gedmintas is yet another wonderful LITHUANIAN! :-)
