L-word: Why did you choose Boston for your characters?
TG: I live in Maine and Boston is the closest big city to me because I actually live in a really small town in Maine and we don’t have enough serial killers to talk about so I use Boston as my setting.
L-word: What was your favorite Rizzoli & Isles book to write and why?
TG: Oh that’s hard. You know the strange thing about it was I think that the easiest book for me to write was “The Surgeon” because I had no expectations, I didn’t know who these people were, I didn’t have a series in mind. I was just telling the story about a serial killer. That was a lot of fun. In terms of my favorite Rizzoli & Isles book that would be one of them but my readers tend to like either “Body Double” or “Vanish”.
L-word: Those two are my favorite too. “Vanish” is about human trafficking with Russian girls involved and in “Body Double” we were introduced to Maura’s family, which was more shocking than on the show.
TG: I think it’s more shocking to have a family that’s a serial killer than a family with just a mobster.
L-word: Especially because he was a really nice mobster.
TG: Yeah, he did have a good side.
