    Romance Is Dead

‘Fine, you want romance?’ Bette thought leaning over and shutting off the lights, ‘I’ll give you romance.’

    ……….

Tina walked into her work building pulling along a ten-year disgruntled Angie. "Maaaa why couldn’t I stay with Auntie Alice or Auntie Kit?"

"Because they spoil you and you don’t deserve to spoiled right now," Tina said.

Angie let out a little whining noise, "but it was Amanda who started it!"

"I don’t care who started it, your mother and I taught you better than to fight just because she called you names," Tina said.

    "But she’s a bit…"

"Angelica Maxine Kennard-Porter!" Tina snapped turning around suddenly, "one more word from you and you can forget about spending the Summer with your Auntie Helena."

Angie squeaked and bit her lip. Tina grabbed Angie’s hand again and moved towards her office.

"Good morning Mrs. Porter-Kennard," Tina’s secretary said with a smile.

"Good morning Carrie," Tina sighed taking some papers from her.

"Hi Angie," Carrie said with a grin.

    "Hi Mrs. Hannigan," Angie said.

"Alright, what gives? Why haven’t you stopped smiling?" Tina said.

Carrie just smiled and said, "see for yourself."

Tina walked into her office and gasped when she saw that her entire office was basically turned into a flower shop. There were flowers and roses of probably every kind all over the place. On the floor, the desk, the couch, EVERYWHERE!

"Uh ma?" Angie said meekly, "do you sell flowers or something?"

    "No Angie," Tina sighed.

"They came with this," Carrie said handing Tina a giant card.

Tina took the card and opened it. It said, ‘how’s this for romantic? Love B.’

"My husband does this kind of thing for me," Carrie commented, "you’re very lucky."

    Tina forced a smile, "thanks."

    "Uh mommy?"

Tina looked at Angie and saw that she was squeezed between two giant rose bouquets on the couch.

Tina just threw her head back and laughed.

    …………………

"Soooooo," Bette said with a grin, "get my little gift?"

Tina dragged the buckets of flowers into the house and Angie followed behind carrying a bucket of flowers bigger than her body.

Tina let out a breath, "jeez hun, I really appreciate the gesture but I was seriously working in a jungle today."

Bette pouted, "you didn’t like it?"

    1. Great story. Finally Bette learned that it’s not a lot of money spent or the big things that counts, it’s the love and attention that means the most.

    2. This was great. Some of your scenes parallel mine: the card 5 years instead of 10; flowers, not a roomful, but enough to trigger a sneezing fit, and $85 later at the ring toss, a three-foot tall Bart Simpson doll…I don’t like Bart Simpson and was never a fan of the Simpsons.

    3. Thanks for posting. Forget the critics… i love reading your stories. If you can please 51% of the readers, you are successful. Please keep them coming… no pun intended.
