    Romance Is Dead

Tina walked into the bedroom in her pajamas. They were flannel pajamas and she yawned loudly. Bette was lying in bed in her bra and panties just lounging and reading the contract for work. She was too lazy to change.

"You’re tired I see," Bette said.

"You’re one to talk miss too lazy to put of some clothes," Tina groaned.

"Well I’ve been slaving away in the damn gallery all day," Bette said, "I’m so ready to retire babe."

"So am I," Tina said, "I had to leave my meeting early to go to Angie’s school."

"She got in a fight again?" Bette said with a heavy sigh.

"That little brat Amanda keeps messing with our baby," Tina said.

"Well how come they don’t fucking punish that stupid girl?" Bette said.

"Because her parents are rich," Tina said.

"Well fuck that, those bitches haven’t dealt with Bette Porter," Bette said.

"Well deal with them fast, because I have to take Angie to work with me during her suspension," Tina said.

    Bette sighed, "sorry babe."

Tina sighed flopped down on the bed, "God you remember what you used to do when I had days like this?"

Bette chuckled, "oh yeah, I used to give you long back rubs with assorted lotions."

"You would light candles too and put some music," Tina said.

    "Yeah."

"That was so romantic," Tina said.

"Well honey, we were a newer couple back then," Bette said, "I was desperate to impress you and make sure you stayed with me."

"Oh yeah you did a lot," Tina laughed, "flowers, gifts, chocolates, poems, songs, the whole deal."

"Yeah so completely over board and corny," Bette said, "but now we’ve been together for 23 years, we don’t need any of that stuff."

Tina glanced at Bette, "you think just because we’ve been together for 23 years that I don’t need to be romanced?"

    "Oh crap," Bette muttered.

Tina sighed, "you know I made a scrapbook out of all the cards and love letters you’ve given me."

    "Really?"

Tina nodded but then looked sad, "I haven’t got one in 10 years."

"What? It can’t have been that long," Bette said.

Tina glanced at Bette one more time then turned and said, "good night Bette."

Bette’s jaw dropped and she wanted to protest but she knew that would only further anger her already stressed out wife.

    1. Great story. Finally Bette learned that it’s not a lot of money spent or the big things that counts, it’s the love and attention that means the most.

    2. This was great. Some of your scenes parallel mine: the card 5 years instead of 10; flowers, not a roomful, but enough to trigger a sneezing fit, and $85 later at the ring toss, a three-foot tall Bart Simpson doll…I don’t like Bart Simpson and was never a fan of the Simpsons.

    3. Thanks for posting. Forget the critics… i love reading your stories. If you can please 51% of the readers, you are successful. Please keep them coming… no pun intended.
