“Run away to me”

Bette and Tina. Season six. Episode eight.  Series finally. Written by Nancy Pofahl

Scene One

Background: Over the last couple of days Tina has noticed Bette acting strangely.  Bette has been very quiet and seems distracted.  Because Tina knows her so well, she suspects that another woman might be the problem.  What Tina does not know is that Bette has run into an old college pal(Episode five.).  The straight girl who got away.  She is a gallery owner doing a feature on Jodie’s art work. The owner made it very clear to Bette that she is no longer straight and very interested in renewing their acquaintance. .

Bette and Tina have been trying throughout the season to have Bette become pregnant. They have more of Marcus’s sperm from the cry bank. Tina has been doing the insemination at home. They have planned to be married (Episode four) The wedding is to take two weeks from now.

Scene:  The garden/pool area of Bette’s house.  (The camera pans around the pool//garden and settles on B and begins to zoom in.).   It is late in the evening and Bette is sitting in a chair just outside the kitchen patio door staring off into space. Tina has just entered the scene from the kitchen (The camera zooms out slowly and shows Bette and Tina in the same shot. Tina is behind Bette undetected The camera then zooms in on Tina.

 The tension between the two mounts with every spoken word.

Tina has a serious but resolved look on her face. The pain she’s in is evident.  She takes a deep breath, and then lets it out.

Tina (Softly with pain) Who is she?

The camera than moves to Bette and zooms in slowly on her face.

Bette is startled then nervous. She turns and glances at Tina.  She quickly turns back  and is looking at the pool.

Bette: (evasively)   Tina! I didn’t know you were home. (Pause) What are you talking about?

The camera is focused on the left side of Bette’s face it slowly circles around to the right zooming out. It starts to zoom in on Tina.

Tina begins to get angry.

Tina: ‘She’ is whoever it is you’re fucking!
