    This Goodbye

I sat in front of her. The wind was knocked out of my lungs and I couldn’t breathe. She was moving, she was leaving. Even though our whole eight month relationship consisted of meet ups at Starbucks, to casual conversations at work and going to the park with my niece and her son, we had grown close. I was devastated and even though she’d shown no signs of being in the least attracted to me, I fell in love with her. Her inner beauty matched her outter beauty.

The last month she’d been super quiet. We didn’t see each other outside of work as often, and when we saw each other at work, it was awkward. At first I thought it was because I had planned on getting a job outside of my department in the same building or at another across town. But, I didn’t want to make it seem like she was upset that I was thinking about leaving. It was her and little did I know she had been looking at houses in Tennessee with her husband. Yes, I am painfully aware of how unavailable she is.

    "Nashville?"

"Nashville," she confirmed. I sat back and she sipped on her coffee.

"Oh," I said, the realization hitting me. I’d never see her again.

"Yeah, we hate Texas," she grinned uncomfortably. I shift in my seat, well it is scorching hot this summer, "well, I’ve got to go. It’s my last day and I need to get my day over with."

She doesn’t even wait for me to respond as she gets up and walks out of the cafeteria, not looking back at me. Her gorgeous blue eyes sting the back of my brain as I try to remain composed for the rest of my day.

I get back to my desk and stare at my computer and I feel like running. I don’t want to work anymore, my depression is getting the best of me. I don’t know what to do. I want to cry, I want to let the tears flow freely. But why? We had never been more than work friends. We would never be more than that. Why do I feel this way? I have fallen for someone I can never have. Oh unrequieted love, you make my heart ache. No, I have to see her once more before she leaves me for good.

    1. They say what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger… keep faith in the fact that there is a somebody for everyone…you may just have been mistaken in thinking she was the one….and the very thing is just waiting around the corner to knock you off your socks. .trust me on that one… :0)

    2. Thanks for sharing this. That this is very real for you made the already sad ending sadder :( I second kins40 – think of this love as an appetizer for what’s to come, a great love hopefully. Chin up!

    3. Wow this is so sad .. I’m so sorry .. My heart breaks for you, I know how you must be feeling. I do hope you feel better though I’m sure it’ll take some time. Don’t rush it and take as much time as you need. There’s a lot of things I personally hate hearing whenever I’m heartbroken so I won’t say them to you but what I can say that I honestly believe is that one way or another .. it gets better. Stay strong and keep on writing .. It helps
