Chapter 4

Lara walked down the street after she left the police station. She was still thinking about what happened the last few days. First Dana died, than that thing that was happening with Alice and herself, and now she got kidnapped by Alice´s boss. It was all a bit too much. Before Lara could do anything or realize what was happening she fainted and hit the pavement hard with her head.

Alice sat at her desk typing into her laptop, or at least trying to concentrate on typing her next Best of list for LA Magazine. Not that she actually liked doing that, but she had to eat, and pay the rent for her apartment. But she could not concentrate on this stupid Best Of list about discount plastic surgery. All she could concentrate on was Lara. That woman drove her insane. First she stayed and spent a hot night with her, but ran away. Than she got kidnapped, by Ruth out of people, and stayed again another night with her, nothing happened though, but she ran away again. And Alice had no idea why. She only knew she was slowly falling for her. A buzz woke her up from her train of thought. She blinked and search for the source of the buzzing, until she found it out it was her cell phone. Alice blinked another as she read the caller ID. It was Lara´s. Hesitating she picked up the phone. „Hello?“ she asked. „Is this Alice Gepiesackt on the phone?“ confused for a second as it was not Lara on the other end Alice answered „Yes, that´s her. Why your calling from Lara Perkins´s cell phone? Something wrong with her?“ The caller on the other end was obviosly searching through some papers as Alice could hear the sound of it „I am Cora Sung from the LA County General. Miss Perkins was found unconcious on Sunset Blvd and brought here. Luckily she fainted in front of a police station she left a few minutes earlier, or else she would lie in a coma. As I already said, she fainted and hit her head. Right now she is unconcious but will wake up soon, but needs to be picked up. We found your number in her papers as closest of kin, so we called you from her cell phone.“ Alice just listened in shocked „I am on my way. I´ll be there in a few minutes.“ She hung up and ran out of her appartment to her car and rushed to the LA County General. Alice almost knew the hospital inside out. She knew it because Dana died here. She spent 5 days here before she died. At the nurses desk she found Cora Sung, the nurse that had called her. „Mrs Sung?“ Cora looked up and smiled at Alice. „Miss Pieszecki I suppose? She is still unconcious but will be all right. I am sorry to tell you that she needs to stay here few days. She can not leave the hospital now as we need to make some more tests. You may go and see her now. Perhaps she already woke up. I´ll show you the way to her.“ Alice nodded and followed Cora Sung to Lara´s room. Cora let her in and left them alone. Alice sat down on the chair next to Lara´s bed, who was still unconcious, and waited. „At least you can not run away now.“ Alice thought with a tiny smile on her face.
