    Rock Lobster – Chapter 2

Then one hopeless evening a few months ago while having drinks at some bar downtown, Alice dared Bette to go on stage to sing for open mic night.

Bette in her drunken state said, “I’ll sing if you sing with me.”

Alice and Bette took the stage and did a cover of a Liz Phair song. The crowd went wild for the two of them and that was when they decided to give music a try. The two girls polished their guitar playing, penned a few songs, met Marina through Kit and the rest was history.

    “So where’s Marina?” Bette asked.

“I don’t know. I remember telling her to meet us here before she left with Jenny yesterday.”

    “Jenny who?”

“Just some girl who came up to us at The Planet. She said she saw us perform the other night and liked our music. They hit it off and they left together.”

    “The first groupie, huh?”

“I guess you can call her that.  She kind of creeps me out though.”

    “Why?”

“I don’t know. There’s something weird about her.”

Bette and Alice were surprised as they saw Marina from a distance walking towards them with Jenny in tow.

“Is that the girl?” Bette whispered.

“Yeah, that’s her. What is she doing here?” Alice whispered back to Bette.

Bette and Alice stood up as Marina and Jenny approached them.

“I’m sorry I’m late, guys. I lost track of the time.” Marina apologized.

“Yeah. We’re sorry.” Jenny butted in.

“Oh, I forgot you haven’t met Bette yet. Bette, this is Jenny." Marina introduced them and they exchanged pleasantries. "You don’t mind if Jenny watches us rehearse, do you?”

“I guess not.” Bette looked at Alice who was obviously not pleased with their unexpected guest.

They went inside the rundown building and began rehearsing. They went through their old line-up and started working on a new song that Bette wrote.

“What’s the title of this song?” Alice asked.

“I call it Reckless.” Bette answered.

“Do you have any ideas of how you want it to sound?  Marina asked while she tried to adjust the hi-hat.

    1. Somebody (like Marina) should tell Yok…, I mean Jenny to shut up. Maybe Alex would enjoy bossing Jenny around, and then the band would be free of the harpies. AngelDana’s right, Bette needs to find her backbone and kick Alex to the curb. Since I’m studying echocardiography, why don’t you call the band The Bad Beats or The Arrhythmias or is that too punk?

    2. Lack of confidence is not an attractive trait on anyone especially our AlphaBette. But hopefully, she will have a personality transformation when she meets Tina and kicks Alex to the curb. PPS. If this Bette looks like the Bette on TLW, she would have a harem of women around her. Good story. PPS.

    3. So did Tina actually see Bette perform or did she have the performance reported to her. I agree, time to get rid of Alex, she a pain, let her hook up with Jenny the other pain. Where is Shane and Dana?
