    Reunion

"How much of a rest do you need?" Tina asked. She was once again letting her fingertips move lightly over the skin of Bette’s back as they faced each other.
"More than you do apparently," Bette laughed. "At the risk of sounding ungrateful, where do you get the energy?"
"Sorry," Tina said. "I guess my enthusiasm is the downside of dating someone who has been too distracted to have sex for a few years."
    "How long exactly?" Bette asked.
    "Since I’ve dated anyone?"
"Well I guess dating could be a euphemism for what I’m asking, but I think you know where I’m going with the question…How long has it been since you were with a woman?"
Tina pondered the question and appeared to be calculating in her head.
    "It’s complicated," Tina finally said.
"How can a time frame be complicated?" Bette said. She brought Tina closer, while letting her own fingertips trail up the side of her thigh. "Come on, I’m just curious."
    "How long for you?
"About six months," Bette said. She went on to explain. "A former fling was here on business and we met to catch up…one thing led to another and…well, I’m sure I don’t need to explain the details."
    "Was it someone from L.A.?"
"A sculptor from deep in my past," Bette nodded. "Your turn to give, Tee."
"Well, since you specifically asked," Tina hesitated. "You’re the first woman I’ve been with."
"Tina, you have to answer," Bette argued. "I was honest and forthright; now it’s your turn."
Tina paused and smiled, letting her fingers interlace with Bette’s.
"I dated women casually in college, but never managed to really connect with anyone beyond fooling around a bit," Tina explained. "I had one serious relationship with a man for almost five years.  And then I got caught up in my research, the rigors of academia and work travel. As a result, I didn’t prioritize a personal life."
"I thought because you seemed interested in me, even back then…" Bette tried to explain her assumption that Tina had all kinds of women in her past. Or at least one.
"Obviously I still am interested in you," Tina said. "I happen to be painfully shy, present condition and state of dress notwithstanding. I doubt anything would have happened between us this time either if I didn’t have Zack and Alice encouraging me."

    1. Thanksgiving was lovely but not as lovely as the weekend Bette and Tina are having! Who could be board? Enjoy your belated holiday celebration. I’m thankful that you’re writing again!

    2. Okay….great pun. Intended or unintended?”I’m going to give you a new appreciation for the concept of FRICTION.””It’s seeming like A STROKE of genius for me to be dating a physicist,” Bette said.

    3. Ooops, wasn’t finished with my comment, don’t know what happened. Anyway, their dialogue is by far the most adult, straight-forward conversation there could ever be between mature lovers that have not been together that long. It makes all the sense in the world, really love it. Thank you.

    4. “I’m going to give you a new appreciation for the concept of friction.” I can only imagine. Seven weeks in Toronto, then L.A. This story could go on and on and on. Just the thought of that makes me happy. Thanks Swimmie.
