    Question

    B:

"To be or not to be that is the question."

That is the ultimate life question. A guy who has been dead for over 500 years actually had the guts to voice that inner turmoil that everybody struggles with. And it is the question that lingers in everybody’s minds.

They ask, ‘do I deserve to live?’ ‘Would the world be better if I was never born?’ ‘When am I going to die?’ ‘How am I going to die?’

And when the moment comes they ask, ‘is this it?’ Then they say those final prayers to God, whether to bring them eternal peace in the afterlife, or to give them another chance at life.

Well I’m one of those people who answers those questions. That doesn’t mean I’m a know it all, I have questions of my own just not the same as everyone else. I am immortal I don’t need to ask those questions. Instead I ask, when everyone is dead and gone in the world and I’m still here, will I be alone? Will I ever find love and have a family? Can I even have a family?

Maybe my questions will remain unanswered for the rest of eternity, but in the meantime I could answer those other questions. My answer is always the one no one ever wants to really know. The people of my race wear those black cloaks and lurk in the deepest recesses of the darkness. When people look into the darkness and wonder if there’s anything out there, that’s where we are, the clan "Muerte Segura," or certain death.

Then there’s the other answer. The answer that most people want to hear, that it’s not their time to go. They are a group called "Milagrosos" or miracle makers. They wear white cloaks and sing around in the light.

It’s a race really. Whoever answers the question first gets to decide the person’s fate. I have never failed. When I decide to answer a question, there hasn’t been a Milagroso who has been able to reach the person first, not even the queen herself. I guess that’s why they made me queen of my clan. If I go out, people will die.

I looked over my shoulder at the Milagroso sweating through her white cloak, panting heavily as she tried to catch up to me. The athletic brunette was obviously well trained, but she stood no chance against the queen of Muerte Segura.
