    Playing By Heart

    Bette nodded. “Okay. Great.”

“But I also wanted to tell you that I’ve spoken with A&R at Thrill City Records and they’re willing to offer a really sweet deal for the Stouts.”

“Oh, good. Tell them they can contact Joyce.”

“That’s the thing, Bette. A&R for Thrill City is used to working solely with talent agents during label negotiations, so I think it would only benefit the band if I were to handle that end of it.”

Bette gave Jodi an incredulous look.

“We haven’t exactly signed you to represent the band, Jodi. At this point, any deals are to go through Joyce first.”

    “I understand, Bette, but –”

“No. I don’t think you do understand. There are no ‘buts’ anymore Jodi. The band will not sign with any label or agent unless negotiations are engaged with Joyce.” Bette was starting to get visibly upset.

Jodi knew it was time to placate the band’s manager before all negotiations with her were off the table.

“Bette, believe me, I’m not trying to pull a fast one or anything…”

“I’m sorry if I’m not completely convinced.” Bette said with another incredulous look at the agent.

“Look, just tell me what Alphaville has offered and I’ll pass along that information to Nadia Karella. She’s Thrill City’s A&R. Whatever the offer is, I can guarantee that Nadia will beat it.”

Bette scoffed. “I already told you, Jodi. There is no offer from Alphaville. There is no negotiation with Alphaville. There’s nothing going on between Alphaville and the Stouts!”

    Jodi raised an eyebrow.

    “Are you sure about that?”

“I am positive!” By this time, Bette was fuming. Who the fuck does this woman think she is?

“That’s strange, because word is that Kornbluth wants to sign your sister, Bette.”

    “Who the fuck is Kornbluth?”

Jodi said with cocked head and a small sneaky smile.

    “Your pretty little girlfriend’s boss.”

The agent had heard from her boss this morning that Aaron was running his mouth at the strip club yesterday about how his star talent scout was getting ready to sign Kit Porter. Jodi believed that Tina was the scout in question and that she was absolutely using her relationship with Bette to seal the deal as Jodi had believed her to have attempted so many times before.

    1. I knew that Jodi was going to use that knowledge about Tina and what Aaron wanted. Now when she tells Bette it will look like she was hiding something. Trouble ahead.

    2. That’s so cool having good music listeners, and as a professional, it’s important for us. I’m still on the road till the end of august. Well, it seems that the couple will cope with hard times?!!!!! Don’t put it to hard on them please!!!!!Hope you’re doing fine!!! Thanks for update, now let me go and get some ice cream to wait for the next one!!!!!

    3. I Really, Really do NOT like jodi. Something about her drove me crazy and not because of Tina or Bette. Just something about her I disliked. Looks like Bette and Tina are in for a bumpy ride.

    4. Sing with me: “There is trouble ahead….” that was far from boring my dear! In actual fact I really enjoyed Bette putting Jodie back into her place….whatever dark hole that should be….. But there is nothing like a woman scorned and I am sure that although Bette did not immediately react to Tina’s boss wanting to book Kit and Kit only, she will be mulling over it soon enough! This was a very good chapter….like all of them really… I don’t know why I pretend to be surprised, you are beyond excellent and entertaining! This chapter made my breakfast homemade pancakes and blueberry sauce taste even better! Thanks for posting! :0)

    5. Merciful heavens!!! Will jodi just go away and leave everyone alone. She is such a piece of slime. Sure hope Tina will talk to Bette real fast and let her know what Aaron wants to do and that she is having nothing to do with it and that she referred him to Joyce. Gosh I so want “our girls” to be alright with each other and not have any problems. Knowing jodi she will not give up until she has broken them apart but, hopefully that will not happen. Tina please go and talk with Bette pronto, don’t let it linger another moment. Will someone please hasten jodi’s departure from this earth. Great chapter. Thanks.

    6. oh Jodi .. just go and crawl under a rock and stay there! Please don’t let her come between Tina and Bette! Excellent and thank you for posting.

    7. I think it will be an misunderstand between B and T. I hope at the end of the story they can trust each other. Whatever happened they’ll love each other.

    8. Hi meloveslu, I love this chapters that link together and provide interestin insight into the storylines and characters of the main players. This addition proved Jodi’s untrustworthness as Zack’s comments and reactions confirmed Bette’s gut instincts. I loved that Bette told Jodi that Tina was her girlfriend even if she did open a chink in their relationship that Jodi is now going to exploit to the full. I do hope that Bette and Tina can work through this and it strengthens their partnership. I fear that there will be hurt and unsettled time but love and peace will win in the end with a big dose of payback for Jodi. More please as I am totally loving this most excellent adventure. Your Loyal Fan.

    9. Silent fan emerging here to let you know how much I’ve enjoyed this story thus far. I’m relatively new to TLW Fan Fic and yours was the first I read that has all of the characters in completely different roles. You’ve done a wonderful job weaving together 3 of my life loves (music, Tina and Bette :) in a very entertaining way (pardon the unintended pun). Well written story balancing band dynamics, relationships and the music industry world perfectly with dialogs that flow nicely too.Looking forward to more :)
