    Planet Terror: Fit Hits Shan(e)

    Someone take these dreams away

That point me to another day

    A duel of personalities

    That stretch all true realities…

Now, only 60 strong, they marched resolutely forward. Bette lay sleeping in the back of a noisy jeep, jarred from time to time as they hit bumpy terrain. The young people had asked that music be put on, quietly, so that they could be distracted from their ever growing despair. They were trying to reach Mexico, on foot. Already, some of their ranks had been picked off from the edges—Bette had actually watched as one young woman walked willingly into the arms of the infected.

Beside her, laying in as many blankets as they could fit, was Helena. She was silent, refusing to look even Bette in the eye. It had been days since the daring raid by the infected. Days since Leigh and Shane had been taken. They were starting to lose count of the days—maybe it had been weeks. Time seemed to collapse upon them like waves, ever deepening their despair. Bette often thought that she could see the infected, laughing at them, mocking them, as they covered the same ground again and again. What if they were not really moving, she wondered deliriously. What if they were standing still, waiting to be killed. The jeep was no longer moving, it seemed. Maybe it was all a trick, and they were all trying to kill her, to kill Helena, to kill the baby. Maybe they were all fucking infected!

A doctor was called in by Catherine to inject Bette with a sedative when she began to scream these things out loud. It was only Catherine now, along with Alice and Lara, who could be counted as sane among the leaders. Helena was certainly sane, but she was also utterly silent, and no longer willing to lead. Catherine climbed into the jeep, sitting between Helena and Bette, trying to urge them both into conversation—anything that would draw them to some kind of hopefulness.

Alice and Lara led the way on the Chopper. Alice drove, while Lara held two M16s in specially designed braces upon Alice’s shoulders. Alice also had a Vulcan of her own, courtesy of Kit, which lay against the handlebars of the bike, ready to be unloaded should a large crowd of infected meet them. So far, Lara’s guns had been enough.

    1. Yeah! I had been jonesing for this and I came back from my lab class and there it was! For a second I thought maybe the people at the compound were Scientologists or something. Clearly our group aren’t-that was about as far from a ‘silent birth’ as you could get. The birth scene was fucking hilarious, starting with Bette’s inability to dress herself. Can’t wait to see what you do with Shane and Jenny. But I bet they make Shane sit in the back, she can’t be smellng too good like that in that southerly clime.

    2. Oh, I forgot. Can you give us a pronunciation guide for the baby’s name? The Celtic bit; the African part being plain enough. Whether its Irish, Scots, or Welsh looking at written gaelic always makes me think I’ve gone crazy and almost never know what to do with it verbally. My ancestors would be ashamed. Well that’s assuming they could read and write.

    3. OMFG!!! Damn that was close! Man oh man! I am more jittery than a crazy person after drinking 20 cups of coffee! I loved Dylan taking care of the doctor. I am glad that they didn’t kill Shane! I wasn’t sure at first, though. I was like, “Don’t kill Shaaaaanneeeeee! Nooooo!” I think they will find a cure and she will be ok again! At least, I am hoping! I was screaming for Bette to get on the helicopter before they got her! Whew!!! Talk about exciting! Everytime I read a chapter I find myself leaning close to my monitor and sitting on the edge of my seat with my legs shaking really fast! LOL! I feel like I just ran a race or something! My blood pumping and my heart is beating fast! I love it! It scares me to think that they might get one of my girls. But, I can’t not read this! It’s just crazy!!!

    4. Stop doing that! My blood pressure was about to go off the rails there, when I wasn’t laughing. Lovely name (pronounced something like Keeveh, funnyone) for the baby. The birth scene was hilarious! But I can’t believe they got Shane… maybe there’s a cure? Even without the nutjob doctor? Terrific as always, helebette, thanks!

    5. I never got chance to comment yesterday cos I was too tired for it to have made any sense. .. I laughed a lot, Lol@ ..”you guys just make statements and then put a questions mark at the end” hehe .. but fancy Helena not knowing what smores are … obviously she was never a girl guide :p .. hehe, I’m glad Shane isn’t biting people, but Jenny is *too* wierd, I’m glad they left the compound, I didn’t trust them either, felt for sure something dodgy would happen with the baby, even though you assured otherwise, still … evil doctor thought Helena’s baby was the answer … hmn … crazy but i love it, the whole thing :)
