    Pianist (3)

"I was 15 years old," Bette said looking into my eyes, "my friend James, was like a brother to me. To this day he was the only man I ever trusted. He always loved music and wanted to be a famous musician one day, but he lacked the talent. So he lived through me. He lived through my talent. One day he got me a gig at this jazz club to play piano with this local jazz band. I was psyched, and I was gonna get paid as well.

"My father didn’t want me to go. He was always against my music career, said that piano wasn’t gonna get me anywhere. So James waited for me on his motorcycle as I snuck out of the house.

"I should have listened. James and I had been best friends since kindergarten, we always protected each other. So here we are to 15 year old teenagers walking through a dangerous area in Compton trying to reach the jazz club.

"We never made it to the jazz club that night. We hadn’t even walked halfway to the club when these two big guys were in front of us. They didn’t ask for money or for the keys to James’ motorcycle. They took out these big knives and asked for me.

"James told them no and tried to push me away from them. They didn’t hesitate. One of them just jumped forward and stabbed James right in the gut. I was screaming and crying as I watched the guy who was like a brother to me, die, right in front of my eyes. And I couldn’t do anything.

"Not even run. And that’s why the other guy got me and pulled me into an alleyway. It was dark and solitary. I was screaming and yelling for them to let me go, to stop. For someone to help me. But no one heard. They took turns on me, then left me there."

Bette paused her story to wipe tears that had spilled out of her eyes, I was crying as well, trying not too sob.

She continued, "my sister Kit went to my rescue. She got those assholes put in prison, and they actually received the death penalty not only because I wasn’t the only woman they had raped, but also because James wasn’t the only person those guys had murdered.

    1. Wait, how do you go from a one night stand to the one? Huh? They share two stories and boom, there is the one. Maybe I’m too realistic to believe that. Well, I’ll just keep reading, I guess. PPS!

    2. Wow…How they both came out of their own “Tragedy”..is one for the book.. cuz if that was me…[on Bette’s part or even Tina’s] I’m completely be devastated and will not know where to go after….Heck, don’t know if i can “rise” to that …Hellish part of my life?…memaw is right…need a cheaper kleenexes….

    3. Soulmates, I wish if it can be true, they were drawn to each other like magnet. life is not easy but in fantasy world everything can happen. I love it;D

    4. Hi TiBetter24, The connection and trust between Bette and Tina has been instanteous as this started as a one night stand and now they are realizing that they are soul-mates. Perhaps when the stars align you just know it is right. What is so inspiring here is that these gals have both been through some tough times yet neither is ready to give on life nor afraid to pursue happiness. I can’t wait to read more of how their partnership develops. More please and many thanks from Your Loyal Fan.
