Naive Perception of Perfect Chapter 24

    Chapter 24

Alice cursed herself in the car for even saying hello to Gabby. She would find Dana if it killed her. She went to her apartment first. Danas car wasnt there. Alice continued to drive, this time to the country club. She knew when Dana got angry she headed there to work it off. Her car wasnt there either. Alice was starting to get nervous. She thought hard, trying to remember anything that would help her. Two years ago, when Danas grandmother had passed away she brought Alice to the beach. There was pier that Dana would go to think. Alice hit the gas and headed south. She pulled up next to Danas car, relieved that she found her and she was safe.
Dana hadnt even hear Alice pull up.

    Alice: Hey stranger.

Alice whispered. She didnt want to startle her.

Dana quicky wiped away tears and turned to face Alice.

Dana: What are you doing here? Should you be taking Gabby home with you?

    Alice: Ouch.

    Dana: Sorry.

Alice: You know Dana, I want you to consider something.

She sat next to Dana on the pier, their shoulders barely touching.

Alice: I have been forced to watch you and Tonya. The two of you kissing, holding hands, making annoying little baby noises at each other. And each time, it hurt just a little more.

    Dana: Im sorry.

Alice: Let me finish, because I have to say this.

Dana nodded allowing Alice to continue.

Alice: When I realized how I felt about you, I didnt know where to place those feelings. I just though , Al, what are you doing? Your best friend is happy. She found someone and that is what she has wanted all along. But it ate away at me Dane. I had to do something.

    Alice sighed.

Alice: Now Im beginning to regret our that kiss. To regret everything after it.

    Dana: You regret earlier?

Alice: Yeah I do. If I had known it was have screwed up our friendship this badly, I would have never done anything.

Dana couldnt hide the tears now.

    Dana: I called Tonya…

    Alice: And…

Dana: I couldnt call it off.

Alice was disappointed but she hoped Dana wouldnt notice it.

Dana: I wanted to, but I chickened out. I mean what if we got together and it didnt work out?

    Alice stood up abruptly.

Alice: Dana, when I said I loved you, I meant it. With all of my heart I meant it. I never promised we would last forever. Even if I wanted to, I couldnt have promised that, but I was willing to give it a try.

    Alice turned to walk away.

Dana: Please Al, dont go. Dont leave me here.

Alice: Just give me time Dana.

Dana jumped up and placed herself at Alices side.

Dana: Ill give you whatever you want.

Alice reached down and grabbed Danas hand. She made it a point of touching Danas engagement ring

    Alice: Obviously not.

Alice turned and walked to her car. Dana could only watch.
