    Love You Lately 18-19

    Chapter 18

The next day found Bette struggling a bit.  Contrary to Tina’s suggestion, she was tossing and turning before succumbing to a sleep filled with dreams about Tina.

She made it a point that morning to seek out Jodi and offer to cook her dinner that night, hoping that spending time with her would help diffuse these confused feelings she had since yesterday.  Actually, truth be told, she knew the feelings were there since Tina had tearfully told her that she thought she may have made a mistake leaving Bette.  Bette admonished herself to feel hopeful then only to have Tina being courted by Kate and helping Bette to win back Jodi.  Tina’s explanation for this change of heart left a lot to be desired but she decided it was a good idea not to pursue this line of questioning at this point.

After sharing a moment with Jodi, she entered her office to be greeted by a big bouquet of champagne roses with a card.  “I realize I risk doing something ordinary for someone extraordinary but since these were the roses that surrounded your backyard growing up and were your grandmothers favorites, I thought it would help you see how much you mean to me, how much we belong together and how much I love you. Tina”

Bette had only a minute to digest the warm feeling that went through her at Tina’s gesture than Jodi entered her office.  What she was going to say was halted as she saw the flowers on the desk.

“Lovely flowers.  Where did you get those?”

“Um, Tina sent them.”  Bette answered honestly.

“I see.”  Jodi answered. “You want me to take them away?”

“Jodi, they’re beautiful flowers.  I didn’t ask for them but I’m going to keep them.”

“Right.  I wonder how you’d feel if someone sent me flowers.”

“Well, Jodi, probably a little how I felt as you dated other women but that’s not the case here.  I’m not encouraging Tina, I’m just going keep these flowers.”

Jodi slammed her hand down on the desk.  “Fine.”  She said angrily and left.

Bette sat down in the chair and put her head in her hands, trying to figure out what the hell was happening.

    Chapter 19

Tina had just returned from a meeting with the budget manager to find Jodi sitting at the reception outside her office.  Jodi stood up at her approach obviously angry.  Tina’s secretary just shrugged, signalling her inability to dissuade the woman from staying.

Tina opened her office and motioned for Jodi to proceed in.

Tina had barely shut the door before Jodi was yelling at her. Tina shook her head calmly to let her know that she didn’t understand what she was saying.  Jodi took a deep breath and continued more slowly.

“You have no right coming after Bette.  She’s with me now so you need to back off.”

Tina leaned against her desk. “I’m sorry Jodi but I love Bette and she loves me and I’ll do anything I can to get her back.”

“You don’t know what Bette wants.”

“Oh please.” Tina refuted. “I’ve forgotten more about Bette than you know.  I’m sorry this is the way its going to be but I realized when you were fooling around on her that I’m the only person Bette should be with.’

“I won’t let her go without a fight.”

Tina gave her a tight smile. “I would hope you wouldn’t.  She’s worth fighting for and no one knows that better than me.’

Jodi tilted her head at Tina.  “Why didn’t you tell Bette about Nicky?”

“I told you I don’t want her to be hurt.  Besides, I don’t want her by default, I want her by design.”

“You won’t get her.  There’s too much fear on her part of getting hurt again.”

Tina opened the office door. “I think you need to give Bette more credit.  She doesn’t run away in fear.  She may be wary but however long it takes, I’ll win her over.”

“You’re going to end up a lonely loser Tina.”  Jodi speculated, turned and left.

“You have no idea what you’re up against” Tina said as she watched Jodi leave.

    3. Yea, like I said, everyone of you writers that are kind enough to gift us with your talent deserve nothing, but praise. Who are we to judge something coming from your heart for free for goodness sake. If someone doesn’t enjoy the material ina story there is far too many other stories to read, and they should just move to the next one.

    4. you shouldn’t have mentioned Seahurst story because it’s one of my favorite and went back to read it after i saw your comment and i have no self-control…i guess i won’t get any sleep tonight LOL
