Love and Pride — chapter 74

LOVE AND PRIDE – Chapter 74

Helena selected a book from the stack she was looking at. She was avoiding going home – that way her mother couldn’t hunt her down and start on the interminable lecture about her failings. Though it had occurred to her that it wasn’t beyond Peggy in the mood she was in to turn up on campus and search her haunts until she found her. That made Helena shudder – Peggy on campus – she may as well just die now.

    “Hello prisoner 27893 “

Helena smiled at Shane who had stopped. She was carrying several very heavy engineering books that looked scary as well as un-Shane like. But Helena knew that Shane was a good scholar despite her hard drinking, drugs and womanising ways. She seemed to have mastered the art of burning the candle at both ends as well as in the middle.

“Hey there and less of the prison jokes – I am sure Alice is inventing nicknames for me even now “

“Alice made some mild comment about how it might be good for you and Bette nearly killed her – it was just as well that Tina was there “

    “I can imagine “

    “How has your mom been?”

“How do you think given the way she reacted outside the court?”

    “Badly “

    “Take a gold medal “

“You want a coffee or something stronger ?”

“Coffee – I need to stay away from the something stronger thing for a while. Are you actually going to read those books ?”

“No – I’m taking them to my room so they can gather dust – yes I am going to read some of them “

“Gee and I thought “Law for Stupid First Year Students” was going to be hard enough for me “

Helena collected the three books she had selected and they went downstairs

“I want to show you something “ Shane indicated the door that lead to the first floor of the library. They went in and she pointed to a hunched figure surrounded by about ten books

“My sister “ Helena smiled “Even though she’s finished her freaking coursework she’s working TOO hard — come and help me distract her “

    1. Gee, maybe Tina and Bette should learn when to give Helena some space and back off? Yeah, Helena behaved badly, but they really should have stopped. Must have been like dealing with Peggy for Helena, after she’d already been rubbed raw by already having dealt with Peggy. And Peggy IS her mother, a mother who often did not do right by her daughter, even if she has provided her with all the material comforts. And I guess it was OK for Tina to totally rage at Jodie rather than deal with her rationally, because why? Jodie is the defacto bad guy? No expectation of trying to maintain a familial relationship with her? What was that about the pot and the kettle?

    2. And maybe Bette needs to cool it with the VERY PDAs before SHE gets hauled in front of the magistrate? How would a public lewdness charge go down with Peggy, let alone Melvin?

    3. Helena needs a punch in the face. Tina’s Mom used to beat her, her father was largely absent, and her grandparents cut her off for falling in love. Helena has poor little rich girl syndrome. She fucked up. She needs to handle it. It isn’t anyone elses fault but her own. Bette and Tina have been the only ones standing by her..and this is how she repays them? Nice. I think they have been nicer to her than she deserves. I hope Jodi finally steps off. What a creepy predator. There must be other people to chase after. Yeah, anyone who continually tries to hit on people in a relationship is a pretty bad person. PPS.

    4. go Tina go! what a way to stop Jodie. Helena was so dump to talk to Tina in that way but i hope she will apologize to her. Ally i think that a lot of hugs from your readers will make the cold go away!so here is my hug!

    5. Hmmm so, I guess 98 was Fahrenheit because Celsius would mean you’re really close to boiling. Or just pulling our legs. Regardless, get well soon. *more hugs*

    6. hey ally, I love your story. I am reading but I don’t always comment. sorry about that. I know how you authors love feedback. I love this new confident and self assured Tina. very sexy. helena does need to grow up. i hope we see some of that before the end of the story. still loving TLW.

    7. I’m glad Tina has a level head about all of this, because Hels most certainly does not. I suppose constantly battling for a parent’s approval that never seems to come gets a bit trying after a while. But maybe, just maybe, if Helena stopped screwing up, she wouldn’t have to have herself held up to the standard of Bette or Tina. I do get the feeling though, that B and/or T will screw up at some point, and the fallout will be spectacular. Maybe then Helena can gloat. As of now though, Hels owes Tina an apology. Thanks for the great update, ally.

    8. Wow ! Wow ! Wow ! Fantastic chapter, Ally ! I loved it ! I could have never told you were sick, your writing style is so vivid, so… Flamboyant ! Pure reading pleasure ! I hope you get well soon, though.

    9. I don’t mind getting sick. *more hugs* lol Hmmm OH SHIT! Jodie needs to cool it bigtime. You know, I don’t blame Helena for at least feeling disappointed that the houses were bought without her since it was her idea. Did she need to snap? Not really, though I am usually quick to snap so I can’t really throw stones here.

    10. Ally, I do hoe Jodi backs th f*** off. Helena does have a right to be mad. But take she needs to take her anger out on the person she is mad at not her friends. Thank you Please take care.

    11. Oh AllyE, that was a good one. “….you stupid tart,…eating a dictionary through a feeding tube….” that was just great. I love an alpha Tina, she can get her back up sometimes, and when she talks through her teeth, she is really pissed then and look out whomever is on the receiving end of her wrath. Great update. Hope you are feeling better soon. Drink a hot toddy or two, that will chase the germs away. Take care.

    12. We absolutely agree with Audi’s comment. She grasped the whole situation on this chapter. Helena is a spoiled young woman (extremely bitchy) and she needs to cool off. On the other hand, Jodi was a total jerk (only speaking hypothetically). Tina, kept her cool and Bette really has turned around about Alice’s denial to accomplish her assignments in due time. We do believe Bette really wants to help her, as well as encouraging their friends to become an active part to get Alice back on the road. As for you, Ally please take good care of your self. It’s pretty shitty here, in Mexico City; rainy and cold weather. Hang in there, Ally! Keep your liquids coming in to help you improve your condition (perhaps, some lemon tea, or something, could be magical to you). Do not stress up. Give yourself a rest and try to keep your chin up. Big hugs and PPS, whenever you feel better. We’re beside you, to cheer you up & to offer you a nice pillow to give you comfort. Please take care. Your friends from Mexico: Lucero & Marsha
