    Ligea’s Poet: New Chapters

On these hands and knees I’m crawling,, I reach for you…

I’m terrified of these four walls…and all, I need is you…

These city walls ain’t got no love for me, I’m on the ledge of the eighteenth story,

I scream for you, come please, I’m calling…

Bette’s fingers tapped impatiently on the desk in front of her, seemingly of their own accord.  She snapped out of her half hour reverie—lost in memories of her father and the summer when issues with Kit first arose.  They were in the midst of a heat wave, and her father took her for the day to talk about Kit’s wild behavior—something about her being passed out on the front lawn that morning.  She remembered a popsicle, pastels, and a sketch pad, all of which he bought her that day while walking near the city centre.  It seemed that an idea was planted that day. Bette would work hard, strive to achieve all that she could, no matter what the consequences. Work was all she had, it seemed.

“James.” She spoke into her mouth piece. “Would you get me that moron’s phone number, along with a latte…what do you mean which moron?…no, I do not regularly insult half of Los Angeles…fine, just fine, James, the moron I refer to, is the moron in charge of arts funding for our beloved state of California…yes, the corporate prick they contracted so that he could cut the head off of an already gutted budget…” Bette’s grimace deepened and she pressed her hand to her head, hard. James meant well, but he was far too optimistic sometimes.

“Ahem.” A familiar voice interrupted her rant.  Bette looked up, and smiled for the first time in what seemed like days, as Helena strode carefully into her office.

“Sweety…” Bette gushed. “No, not you.” She stammered into the phone as James started laughing. “James, I’ll speak with you in a few minutes…” Bette hurridly hung up on him and stood to greet her girlfriend. “You look beautiful.” Bette said, smiling charmingly. Helena did look gorgeous, in a dark blue suit jacket with matching skirt. The jacket opened to reveal enough cleavage to suitably distract Bette from her worries, if only for a moment.

    1. JauntyBuffMuff must die! Oh wait, been there & done that. Dean Porter needs a change of scenery, she can pick up a new wardrobe along the way. Do keep posting to this one, hb. Thanks for the update.

    2. I don’t know, I kinda liked the top with the wingy cuffs she was wearing walking with Phyllis.I also liked what she wore when she met Tina outside at lunch, when Tina was demanding Bette tell Kit about her own scuzzball nanny, which was none of Tina’s biz anyway. Tina seems to be quite fond of monitoring others’ transgressions…not so much her own, but, I digress. I did NOT like that white jacket with the belt…or any blouse with the bow. I DO LIKE this story..go Bette, go Helena, you guys rock and are soooo hot. Tina? We don’ know no Tina!!!

    3. And another very enjoyable chapter, Helebette. Brava ! Did I mention before how much I liked your writing style ? Well, I do. It’s very… assertive and… mature. Well, I’m probably using all the wrong adjectives here, but it was supposed to be a compliment. Anyway, one thing is for sure : your style is absolutely delectable. Needless to say I also love the wit that emanates from the dialogue in all your stories. This is very inspiring, ya know… Thank you for sharing.

    4. love ur commentary about Bette “the stuffy dean” Porter, but she has bills to pay and a baby to raise so I can’t blame her…i think she should try to explore the things that she truly has a passion for

    5. Thanks for coming back to us with this one, helebette. Kit was passed out on the lawn? Well, you know, I can kind of understand where Melvin was coming from in that case. If Bette wants to wear better clothes she either needs to move to a different show. I don’t even care much about what passes for ‘fashion’, but as I’ve noted before, they sure wear some ugly-ass frocks on the L Word. Like that high neck with bow blouse that Bette wore to see Peggy. Why would you want to dress Bette as a matronly secretary from New Jersey? Or that odd short sleeve with wings jacket she had on while strolling on campus with Phyllis. Oy! Such schmattes! I thought Buffy, Muffy, and Jonty had been taken care of in that other story. Are they a new strain of zombie that just can’t be killed?

    6. Bette needs to drop the granny blouses along her with workaholic ways. Helena is gently nudging her in the right direction. Now it’s up to Bette to trust her instincts and follow her passion.
