Life With Liz CH 23
Tina have you seen her jacket?
Its in the dryer babe
Okay thanks
Bette walked out to the garage to fetch Lizs jacket out of the dryer so that they could get going. It was Friday morning and Bette had taken off of work so that she could take Liz to the doctors for her annual checkup. Liz was sitting at the kitchen table with Tina finishing her breakfast and Tina kept glancing at her watch.
BETTE HURRY UPIM GOING TO BE LATE
OKAY OKAY
Bette came back into the house holding Lizs jacket and trying to put her jacket on at the same time. Tina laughed at Bettes disgruntled appearance but held it back as much as possible so she wouldnt hurt Bettes feelings. Liz was enjoying her pancakes and orange juice completely oblivious to her frantic mommies who were trying to get her out of the house as quickly as possible so that neither of them would be late. Tina kissed Liz on the top of the head as she got up and barely stopped to peck Bette on the cheek as she practically flew out the door on her way to work. Bette just shook her head at Tinas disappearing back and laughed at Liz who had gotten rid of her fork and was enjoying her food with her fingers instead.
Okay baby time to gocome on lets get you cleaned up
Bette helped Liz put her plate in the sink and took her to the bathroom to wash her hands and helped her use the potty before they went to the doctors. After Liz was all clean and changed her and her mommy headed out the door on the way to the doctors. Liz was quite talkative all the way over, not really having any idea where they were going, and Bette just kept her talking so she would take her mind off of having to go to the doctors. As they pulled into the parking lot Liz still had no idea where they were and Bette was thanking her lucky stars for this. The last time they had to go to the doctors office Liz had a high fever and she was screaming bloody murder the entire time.
Okay honeylets go
Okay mommy
Bette got Liz out of the car and they headed into the doctors office. Once inside Liz happily went on her way to play with the toys in the waiting room. Bette kept an eye on her as she walked up to the desk to check in.
Elizabeth Kentor here to see Dr. Bailey.
The receptionist at the front desk checked her list and after confirming Liz was on the schedule she told Bette it would just be a few moments before the doctor would see them. Bette thanked her and went to sit down near Liz who was looking at a book but looked up at Bette as she sat down.
Hi mommy
Hi baby
What are we doing mommy?
You have to see Dr. Bailey honey
How come?
Because its time for your annual checkup honey.
Whats that mommy?
We have to make sure everything is okay with you sweetie
Why mommy?
Just to make sure that you are healthy honey
How come mommy?
Because you dont want to be sick do you?
No mommy
Well then thats why we have to make sure everything is okay
Why mommy?
Bette smiled down at Liz as she tried not to get irritated with her. Liz had grown into that stage where kids seem to have a million and one questions and lately Liz had been nosy about everything. The worst however was when Liz heard Bette and Tina having ***** one night and she wanted to know what those noises were. Bette felt her cheeks flush just at the memory of having to explain to Liz why Tina was moaning so loudly and she can remember clearly just how thankful she was that Liz never mentioned that incident in front of Alice or any of the other girls.
We have to make sure that everything is okay so you can grow up to be a big girl.
Okay mommy
Bette breathed a sigh of relief that her line of questioning was over, for now, and she flipped through a magazine until a nurse stuck her head out and called Liz into the office. After getting her weighed and her height taken Bette and Liz were escorted into the little office to wait for the doctor. Bette took a seat in the chair next to the exam table while Liz hopped up immediately and started looking at the pictures on the walls. After a few moments Dr. Bailey came in and it seemed to click to Liz exactly where they were and she scrambled into Bettes lap in the blink of an eye. Bette smiled sheepishly at Dr. Bailey while she tried to coax Liz back on to the exam table but her efforts were to no avail as Liz clung onto Bette as if her life depended on it. Dr. Bailey then did her best to get Liz up on the table.
Come on sweetheartjust for a few minutes okay?
NO!
Liz glared at Dr. Bailey as Bette looked on helplessly. Dr. Bailey finally just smiled and said she could do the examination with Liz in Bettes lap. Dr. Bailey asked Bette a few questions about Lizs eating and sleeping habits then held out a thermometer to take Lizs temperature. Liz opened her mouth barely big enough for Dr. Bailey to stick the thermometer in before Liz clamped her jaw over it.
Make sure its under your tongue honey
Liz just looked at Bette like she hated her guts and Bette felt a twinge of guilt for subjecting her daughter to this apparent torture. After a minute Dr. Bailey removed the thermometer and recorded her temperature, a normal 98.6 degrees, then took out the little light to look into her ears and nose. Bette hugged Liz tight as Dr. Bailey examined her nose but when it came to her ears Liz put up one ***** of a fight.
NO NO NO!!!
Come on sweetieit wont hurt.just one little look
Bette held Liz down as Dr. Bailey checked her ears as best she could before finally giving up and putting the little light away. Bette sighed with relief again when Liz seemed to calm down after seeing the horrible light go away, but Bette knew what was coming next. Liz had to get her booster shots and she knew at the rate things were going, it was going to be world war three in there. Dr. Bailey gave Bette a look as she turned her back and prepared the needle while Bette comforted her daughter and tried to take her mind off of what was going on behind her. Dr. Bailey held the needle behind her back as she approached Liz and took advantage of the fact that Liz had become very interested in Bettes necklace. She took Lizs arm and cleaned it off quickly with alcohol and before Liz had time to react she had gently stuck the needle in and was almost done administering the shot.
WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!
Liz let out a scream that could have woken the dead and she tried to move her arm but Bette was prepared and held her down as Dr. Bailey tried to keep her shoulder still so she could finish the shot. After a few seconds Dr. Bailey pulled the needle out as gently as possible, which still elicited an ear piercing scream from Liz who looked as if someone had tried to attack her. Bette kissed her arm where the shot was and wiped the tears off of Lizs face while Dr. Bailey made some notes in Lizs chart before turning back to Bette and Liz with a smile on her face.
Okay sweetieall done
Liz just shot Dr. Bailey another evil glance as Dr. Bailey gave Bette instructions to bring Liz back in six months for her last set of shots before leaving the room and giving Liz a chance to calm down. Bette just wiped the tears off of Lizs face who was still sniffling as her tears subsided.
Its okay Lizits all doneim so proud you were such a big girl
I wanna go home mommy
Okay honey lets go home
Bette carried Liz out of the doctors office and after stopping to get Liz a lollypop Bette helped Liz back into her car seat so they could head home. Liz sniffled the entire ride home and despite Bettes efforts to cheer her up Liz remained hurt and silent and Bette just carried her inside and let her go to her room and rest as she cleaned up a little and waited for Tina to get home. A few hours later Tina walked through the door exhausted and found Bette lying on the couch with her hand on her head massaging her temples. She walked over to her and sat down to kiss her forehead and gently stroked her cheek.
Whats wrong baby?
Long doctors appointment thats all
Aww was she crying?
Like you wouldnt believe T
Tina kissed Bettes forehead before getting up and walking to Lizs room to see how she was doing. After a few moments they both returned and Liz still looked like she had still been crying but at least she was smiling as Tina set her down on the couch next to Bette. Liz turned to Bette and looked up at her curiously.
Whats wrong mommy?
Nothing babymommys head hurts thats all
Why mommy?
As Bette glanced down at Liz and saw that mischievous smile on her daughters face, Bette just smiled at her and knew that at last, everything was all better.

i love how she loves to annoy bette with endless questions. why mommy? why mommy? oh that rocks.
That was REALLY good and very realistic. I was a ‘weird’ kid though. I enjoyed getting shots. I though it was “cool” to “not cry” like everyone else, plus, my mother would take me to McDonald’s for apple pie and ice cream!!!!! (nevermind what the therapist says…BRIBERY WORKS!)
:)
How much I love this story…. as much as to LIz…
Pleaseeeeee keep them coming, I know is dificult but hey, you have here one faithful reader. :D
Hahaha… that last part was just so adorably funny. Very cute indeed! Well, I was just an odd ball… I don’t mind getting shots, just for the sake of being different.. lol.. hardly cried. Just a little tense, that’s all. Yeah, I’ve never been bribed to do anything by my parents, it never exists in my vocab.
Thumbs Up!!! Great….as usual…moreeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
I love this fictional kid! God she’s so cute. Very sweet as alway’s aaTnB! ; )
Shots never bothered me as a kid either. At least, I don’t remember being bothered. LOL
