I’ll Never Let You Go: Chapter 19
Previously…
Bette was so captured by the photo that she didn’t notice a woman standing on her side silently looking at her reaction. A mixture of intense euphoria, deep artistic recognition and sadness showed on her face, her eyes well with tears.
“Isn’t she a beauty?”
Bette was startled by the voice of a woman; she quickly wiped her tears and turned to the person standing beside her.
“You can’t imagine how jealous I am of you right now”
“You’ve been waiting to burst into tears and make a complete fool of yourself?”
The woman smiled “you know Stendahl?”
Bette paused to think “from what I read he was a French art critic”
“He went to Florence and when he saw the Caravaggio he burst into tears and then he fainted. The work of art was so beautiful and moving that he couldn’t stand the impact. I want to experience what he felt he underwent the profoundest experience of ecstacy that he ever encountered.”
Bette looked at her smiling “yes that would be amazing”
“Any way forgive me for not introducing myself I’m Peggy Peabody’
“I know who you are and my name is Bette Porter”
Chapter 19
“Ah you’re Bette Porter? I heard a lot of things about you” Peggy said
“All good things I hope” Bette replied
Peggy smiled “Well so far you’ve got nothing to worry about, c’mon let’s go to my office”
The two women stepped into the spacious and elegant room, everything in it smells expensive, various photographs and paintings leaned against the walls. Peggy went straight to the liquor cabinet
“What’re you drinking?”
“Um nothing, I’m fine”
“Oh! Nonsense, I had this ridiculous drink the other night. Uh, Jos made it for me mango juice and vodka, I think? Just ridiculous”
“Who’s Jos?”
“Oh he’s my helper. He’s in love with this girl who works for the Weintraubs or is it the Fleischmans, I’m not certain. Mad obsessive love! I told him go! Be in love! Take the night, show her the sea. I think people in love should see the sea”
Peggy poured two glasses and handed one to Bette, Bette smelled it first before drinking
“This drink has a very salutary effect; it’s called the “Roadkill” Peggy downed a big amount “Hmmm… yum!”

Right direction.Thank you for the update.PPS
The saying that Peggy told Bette about marriage and the car battery comparsion was very funny to me-because on the new tv show The Fosters-that is what Stef’s mom-Sharon-played by Annie Potts-said to them at Stef and Lena’s Wedding-it was beautiful by the way to see two women have a marriage that is considerded legal. A friendship, is a beautiful thing to have.
