I Need My Best Friend – Part 9
Chapter Nine
Thursday Afternoon
James thought Bette was going to drive him crazy over this show for the kids. She had nit picked every little detail, you would have thought it was a real show. He now knew more about children’s exhibits than he ever wanted to know.
‘Hey James.’
‘Tina, oh no! Bette will die, we aren’t through with this yet.’
‘Is that for the kids? Let me see.’
‘I’m so glad you’re back, she has been so “edgy” with you gone this week.’
‘James, I thought you were going to bring me Tina! I thought you weren’t getting in until tonight.’
‘I got through early and changed my flight. I thought I’d stop by and see if you wanted to have dinner. I can’t believe this stuff for the kids.’
‘You like it?’
‘I love it. I thought you would sketch something, but this is a real presentation. I can’t believe you did all this.’
‘James did most of it.’
James had been watching this little interaction wondering just what was wrong with this picture.
Bette realized James was watching them and said, ‘what’s wrong James?’
‘Nothing.’
Bette and Tina glanced at each other and realized James was wondering why they were acting the same as if
‘Tina could you excuse us a moment? James could I see you in my office?’
Tina took Bette’s hand, ‘Bette, I want to be there, all right?’
‘You don’t have to be.’
‘I know.’
The three of them stepped into Bette’s office, she motioned for James to have a seat.
‘James I probably should have already told you this, but I just couldn’t talk about it. You see, Tina and I well we a few weeks ago Tina found ‘
‘Bette let me. James, Bette and I have separated. We’re trying to work through some things, but for now we’re separated.’
James thought back over the past few weeks and looked at Bette. ‘I hope I haven’t said anything I shouldn’t have.’
Bette smiled, ‘don’t worry about it James. Now let’s show Tina what you’ve put together for the kids.’

I am just getting caught up with this story its so good. I can understand Tina’s struggle and I know she will overcome the anger when she realizes her love outweighs the anger. GREAT story
that was great, I so agree it is about time. work it out
Very good, you had me hoping all the way, that Tina would budge just a little. Bette is on her way and has accepted her mistakes and is taking on the responsibility to recetify them. I will be waiting for the next chapter. I hope that it won;t be too long. Thanks
I was really concerned about the direction this post took. Thanks so much for the feedback. Sorry I take so long between posts.
This was so right on. Kudos to Bette for leaving at the end…she was both right to leave, and very brave to leave as well. Well done!!
One says that they are sorry, making attempts to change, showing remores, showing how much love they have for the one they love. Is all one needs to show. Tina wow she has to deal with that angier or she will lose out. Catch the next chapter.
I agree with abouttime. Bette has apologized enough and I’m sure it was difficult for her to just walk out but it had to be done. No more dancing around the guilt and the same issues. Its time to move forward and begin the healing process. Excellent chapter, asalways!
I agree with what everyone else has said. Good on Bette. Tina needs to sort herself out.
Bette was ready to face some of her issues while Tina isn’t. I do agree that in order for it to work, both parties have to be ready. Time helps a lot though in that duration, it’ll be like hell.
I found this a very emotionally powerful chapter and echo everyone’s comments regarding Bette’s willingness and Tina’s cowardice.
Thanks for posting!
good for bette! not just leaving, but explaining why she was leaving just shows the depth of her love. its up to tee now to do some soul searching.
great chapter, well worth the wait.
i agree with everyone else-it was time to go. Thanks for taking the time to write this great story
This is bloody brilliant. I do empathize with Tina and I do love Bette.
