I Need My Best Friend – Part 12

    Chapter Twelve

    Monday Afternoon

Bette’s day had been hectic, trying to get ready to go out of town with Peggy and take care of things at The CAC before leaving.  She had spent some time with James going over the plans she had made with Tina about the kid’s show.  Now she was ready to wrap things up and go home.  The past few days had taken more of an emotional toll than she realized, all she could think about was a long shower and some sleep.  She had left two messages for Tina but hadn’t heard from her.  She was just about to leave when James told her Alice was on hold.

    ‘Hey Al, how are you?’

‘Trying to get everyone together, Kit’s going to DJ tonight, remember?’

‘Actually I had forgotten I’m glad you called.  I need to at least stop by.  I’m going out of town tomorrow for a few days and I’d like to see her before I go.’

    ‘Where are you off to?’

‘Chicago with Peggy Peabody, I’ll be back late Thursday night.  Have you called Tina about tonight?’

‘I left a message but I haven’t heard from her.’

‘Must be a busy day, she hasn’t returned my calls either.’

‘How are things going?  I haven’t seen her in a few days.’

‘We’ve talked about a lot of things, but there is still a lot to talk about.’

    ‘Talking is good, right?’

‘Sure Al, I’ll see you later.’

    * * * * *

When Bette walked in Alice and Shane were already at a table.  Shane was about to go for drinks so Bette offered to go with her.

As they walked toward the bar Bette asked, ‘Where’s Tina?’

    ‘She’s talking to Kit.’

Bette looked over and Tina smiled and waved, Bette winked and waved.

As they were waiting for their drinks Bette felt someone touch her arm.  Thinking it was Tina she smiled and turned around and found herself face to face with a stranger, a beautiful stranger.

‘Can I buy you a drink?’

As she turned back toward Shane she said, ‘Thanks, but I already have one.’

    1. Bette is giving up so much for the love of Tina. She {Tina} doesm’t wear her ring.yet Bette does. Is it that she doesn’t trust Bette are just plain jealous of any woman that is near her? thank one of the best going today.

    2. I really like the way Bette and Tina understand each othe, even though Tina doesn’t quite trust Bette. It shows how their relationship is maturing. Your writing is really great and I am looking forward to more!
