    Heartless: Racing Through The Maze

"Hang on, baby!" I cried as I raced through the maze carrying Bette on my back.

We had a good pace going for a while. Bette’s hands were clinging to my shoulders and her legs were wrapped around my waist. She had laid her head on my upper back, since every step I took was hurting her.

She was losing her strength and losing it fast. So I started to run. I am sure I spent a long while going in circles, but eventually I was starting to find the pattern.

"Hang on baby," I repeated out of breath, pushing my body to its limits since my legs were tired and she was practically dead weight on my body.

"T," I heard her groan softly, "I…l-love you."

"Don’t talk like that!" I cried desperately, "we’re gonna make it okay? Because I love you, so don’t you dare leave me! Angie and I need you."

"Tina," Bette whispered with difficulty, but even then I knew she was smiling, "you did it."

"I did what?" I said needing to hear her voice to make sure she was still with me.

"Y-you got y-your soul back," Bette whispered. I felt tears on my shoulders and I couldn’t help but cry with her. She was right. She was right! I knew it! I felt it!

That emptiness, that despair, was gone. I felt complete inside and my only focus was to save the person who made me feel that way.

"And I’m not gonna lose it again!" I cried forcing my legs to move faster around the big wall. Then I saw it. The light at the end of the tunnel.

I saw the distant figure of Cameron who was waving something in the air. Probably the antidote.

"Cameron!" I yelled running toward him, hanging onto Bette’s thighs as I sprinted.

"Looks like you made it," Cameron taunted twirling the syringe between his fingers.

I set Bette down on the floor slowly and looked at her. There were tears streaming down her cheeks and her eyes were shut tightly, indicating great pain.

"I’ve beat your stupid game, now give me the antidote!" I growled.

"Seems you have," Cameron said with an evil grin, "wait a minute, there’s something different about you."
