Marina sat in the vacant chair beside Alice. You all wanted to speak with me? she asked in her heavily accented voice.

Yes. We were wondering Bette began, not sure how to phrase the question without coming across as overly nosy.

What the ***** youre doing back? Alice finished rudely, as she had no qualms about being nosy.

Bette glared at her and kicked her shin under the table, causing Alice to jump and shoot her a dirty look. Marina just smiled, and said softly, I needed some time to clear my head. Then Francesca died, and I was the benefactor of her will. She was quite wealthy, you know, and now I am. Which is how I was able to keep The Planet, in case you were wondering, and take on Kit as my business partner.

Francesca died?! How? Alice blurted out in shock. Bette delivered another swift warning kick in her direction under the table.

Bette reddened and looked away, ignoring Alices smirk. Sorry, she mouthed to Shane.

Marina looked at Shane strangely before saying, She was in a plane crash.

Youre taking it, um, well, Tina observed politely.

Frankly, its a relief to know Ill never have to deal with that manipulative ***** again, Marina replied harshly, her eyes fiery, yet her voice cold and dull.

Um, Marina, we have something to tell you, Shane spoke up, deciding to get to the point, but quickly glancing at Bette for backup.

Jennys gone. She went home to her parents in the Midwest. She left this letter, Bette said, pulling the note from her purse and handing it across the table.

Marina looked at her evenly and took the note, reading it and then staring off into space for a moment before reading it once again. For a moment, it looked as if her eyes might be shining with tears, but just as quickly, they were gone and her face took on the hard, bitter look from before. I am not surprised, she said simply. She stood up with a small smile. Now if you ladies will excuse me, I have work to do.

They watched her walk away. She took that, um, .well, Tina stated, remembering her similar statement from earlier.

She probably doesnt know how to react yet, especially in front of all of us, Bette commented.

Well, its been fun and all, but Id better run, Shane said suddenly, standing up.
