    Great Unexpectations Chapter 3

    Previously…

Bette hesitated and looked at Jodi squarely with tears rimming in her eyes.  "We have to talk."

Jodi’s stomach dropped.  This is it.  This is the day I lose her.  She had known this day would come eventually.  Tales of "the Legend Of Bette and Tina" were hard to avoid in West Hollywood.  She swallowed hard, nodded, and began signing.  "Let me start…You talk in your sleep."  Bette looked at her, stunned, saying nothing.

    Chapter 3.

    Later…

Tina was at work. Well, she was at the building in which work took place anyway. The phone messages on her assistant’s desk were piling up and her e-mail alerts were flashing on her screen but Tina was a million miles away. At this precise moment Bette and Jodi were probably enjoying a romantic encounter full of "I love you" and "I’ve missed you" and the thought of the whole scene made her stomach turn.

Sleep did not come easily the previous night. Bette had been over for dinner and they’d finally had "the talk". Did I really tell her to go to Jodi? She sometimes felt like her own worst enemy, which in retrospect was a pretty fair appraisal. She didn’t blame Bette at all for any hesitance she may be feeling. Tina certainly hadn’t given her any reason to feel otherwise.

Tina’s thoughts were disturbed by the obnoxious drone of her phone intercom. "Tina, someone is here to see you."

"I can’t see anybody today. I told you to clear my schedule." Tina snapped harshly.

"Sorry Tina, she pushed through. She’ll be at your door in a minute."Jesus Christ. Must be Bette. Shit.

In about 30 seconds the rest of her life was going to be decided. It’s a scary thing awaiting your fate. Her heart pounded so much it was soon the only thing she could hear. She had half a mind to race to her office door and lock it. Stalling heartache won’t make it go away, Tina.

Before Tina had a chance to act on her inclination the doorknob began to move. Tina held her breath as Bette came through the doorway. Later, Tina would try to recall in vain what Bette was wearing at that moment. All she could see, though, were Bette’s eyes. They were red and puffy. She’d been crying. All thoughts of Tina’s own fears were quickly discarded as she went to Bette. Her innate urge to comfort just took over. She quickly enveloped Bette in a strong, warm embrace. Bette accepted it and began sobbing. They stood like this for several minutes. Not talking. Just holding each other. Tina was rubbing Bette’s back and urging her to ‘Shh’. Tina finally pulled back slowly so that she could lead Bette to her office sofa.

    1. “Bette followed Tina’s glance and found the dish cloth, full of betrayal that it was, looking up at her smugly.” I love your writing!! Please continue soon!

    2. How many cold showers must they endure? The slow build makes total sense given all their baggage (Henry!), but in the end they should heed Janis’s advice.

    3. Hey Red great post! I think Tina knows what’s going on with Bette. Bette shouldn’t be afraid to tell Tina what’s going on, and Tina shouldn’t shut down on Bette. They have to be able to talk to each other about their fears and other bad feelings as well as their good feelings. I loved your take off of Willow and Tara’s conversation (from Buffy the Vampire Slayer) there at the end Red! Sweet! I’m lovin’ it! More please!

    4. Yeah, that Henry thing would be difficult to hack through. Bette never doubted her own sexuality as an adult. She’s nervous that Tina will have another itch? PPS.

    5. It feels right that they would have to rebuild their relationship slowly to be solid again, and learn to be together again. And I love to read your description of this seduction game, it’s slow sweet torture, it’s pleasure!

    6. bette was right, they both went through a lot and tina also needs to forget a lot, so maybe skipping it and go back to kissing is the best idea, they can talk between kisses
