"Great afternoon," Tina commented as she stood by the front door. "Thanks so much. I feel rejuvenated."
"We’ll do it again soon," Bette said. "Maybe we can meet up some time this week?"
"You’ve shared so much of your gallery with me – would you be interested in coming to a screening on Thursday?" Tina went on to explain. "It’s not a typical premiere – it’s just for industry people. But I think you’ll enjoy the film."
"I’d love to – call me with the details and I’ll make sure I’m free," Bette said.
They ended their afternoon with an embrace that was much more natural than the one they’d shared the day before. Genuine affection shared between two women whose friendship was blossoming.
Chapter 3
"Hey," Alice spoke into her cell as Bette picked up her home phone.
"Hi Alice," Bette said. "You’re back earlier than you thought you’d be. How was the tennis player?"
"Total closet case, but pretty fun once I nudged her out of her shell with assurances that I wouldn’t write about her sexuality," Alice said. "She actually lives here – it’s just the tournament that took her out to the ‘burbs."
"I’m glad you called – do you want to meet at the restaurant?" Bette asked.
"I thought since I’m back so early, I’d pop by," Alice said. "I haven’t seen much of you this week."
"Our free time hasn’t really coincided," Bette agreed.
"What did you end up doing today?"
"I went into the office this morning and then I invited Tina and Eric over for lunch," Bette mustered the will to say it as convincingly as possible, to prevent further questions. She wasn’t even sure what she was trying to hide.
"Sounds a little too much like work to me," Alice said. "How are they doing."
"Fine," Bette said. "I mean, Tina’s fine. Eric had to work today and wasn’t able to come over."
"Oh," Alice said. "Tina came over for lunch."
"We had a nice visit," Bette offered. This statement was followed by an awkward silence.
"So it’s okay to come over?" Alice asked.
"I was just going to have a shower," Bette said. "I’m sure I’ll be done by the time you get here."

I’m enjoying this story very much, and appreciated that you allowed us to share that intimate moment with Tina and Eric. I never thought Eric was a bad guy, or had to be a jerk…he just wasn’t the right one for Tina, just like Alice wasn’t the right one for Bette. And I’m glad to see that even though I don’t think Eric is the right one for Tina, at least she’s enjoying the sex enough to orgasm twice! LOL Thanks JKS!!
Well, it might be sex-by-the-numbers with Eric, but Tina seems to not find it totally unpleasant. It’s other parts of their relationship that seem to be lacking. As for Bette and Alice, at least they’re letting the physical aspect of their relationship go to try and salvage one that will still have meaning. Here’s hoping your day worked out better than anticipated. Thanks for posting. :)

Finally the missing details of Alice and Bette’s breakup. i love this story, please keep writing. i even find myself liking this version of Eric, not his fault that Bette is so damn hot! PPS

Awesome story. If only break ups were that easy lol…looks like they both (Bette & Tina) got their goodbyes out, Tina just don’t realize it yet lol. Please don’t let her get pregnant by Eric. PPS
One more thing: Was Tina reading Jon Krakauer’s “Into Thin Air” pre- and post-coital? If yes, wow. That simple scene illustrated the contrast between their almost perfunctory relationship and sex life and the thrilling, life and death situation in the book. Tina reading the book as a bookend to the enjoyable but short coitus was a deft touch, jks. It spoke volumes of the status of their relationship. Many thanks, jks! =)

Great chapter Swimmie and I hope you had a much better day than you had expected. Love this chapter. Don’t feel sorry for Alice at all, she too, saw this breakup coming before she mentioned it. I think the breakup sex was a very bad idea because she wasn’t thinking of her broken heart, just a last opportunity to have hot sex that she thought she would never have again. Hopefully when Bette and Tina do get together hopefully Alice will not be the nosey, arrogant, and vengeful ex-girlfriend and pretend friend to Tina. Hope you won’t let Bette feel guilty and let her get away with all kinds of stuff. Never liked alice for that reason as well as broadcasting their business to one and all. Try to have a great weekend. The little one needs to get out and play weather permiting. Thanks for taking the time to post even when you don’t feel like it.

Nice juxtaposition of two relationships that had come to a dead end, although one couple isn’t fully aware yet that they’ve plateaued already.
