    Friendship Foundation Chapter 20

"Find me when you get here," Bette said. "No matter what I’m doing or who I’m talking to."

"I will," Tina reached for her hand and held her fingers.

Bette curled her fingers around Tina’s and with a gentle persuasion brought her closer.

"I’m glad you came by," Bette turned her head towards Tina but wasn’t going to initiate a kiss. Tina could if she wanted to.

With her free hand on the side of Bette’s face, and Bette still leaning on the edge of the desk, Tina appeared taller. She let her lips rest first by Bette’s temple, and felt the pulse of her heartbeat under the skin before moving to her mouth. Close, but their lips were not quite touching.

"I’ll see you later," Tina said quietly.

"Wish you could stay," Bette replied.

As the last word was spoken, Tina finally kissed her. Bette pulled her closer, feeling for the first time an ache that eluded description. It wasn’t just about want. It was about aspiring to bring happiness to someone who meant so very much to her.

    Chapter 20

"I’ll introduce you to a few people," Bette said. She slipped her hand into Tina’s and reached to kiss her on the cheek.

Tina felt the sensation of several sets of eyes on them.

"People aren’t staring because you’re a woman," Bette said. "People are staring because they’ve never seen me show affection in public before."

"The invitation lists for these dinners and your pool parties must be mutually exclusive then?"

"Aren’t you so very witty this evening," Bette smiled. "You’re right though – the venn diagram of my social and professional lives show two distinct circles with scant overlap."

Within half an hour, Tina had met a collection of people that Bette knew either from the gallery, or from her previous experience as a curator. She hadn’t considered how it would feel to be introduced as Bette’s girlfriend.

At first, she reveled in the descriptor. This intelligent, kind and wonderful woman was her girlfriend. Each introduction made her feel more at ease. There was even a sense of security attached to presenting their relationship to the world at large. Even a world as insular as that which existed at Bette’s artists’ dinners.

    1. Swimmie, your writing is so exquisite as it flows along so smoothly. I’ve enjoyed every story you’ve ever written. The pace of their developing relationship is perfect as was the dialogue between them. Thank you! Sorry I didn’t comment last chapter, not because I didn’t want to it was because I wanted to continue the read. I’m so happy!

    2. Swimmie, you’re awesome. The way talk and communicate is just wonderful. Every relationship be like that, but too bad they’re not. Like Tina, the anticipation is killing, but I’ll play by Bette’s rule.

    3. I don’t think much convincing is necessary on Tina’s part either… the waiting seems to be more for Tina’s benefit than Bette’s. The anticipation is going to be big, but I think it’s going to more than meet up with expectations. Great chapter, jks. Thanks for posting. :)

    4. Savoring each word in each chapter. Spectacular writing. You are so talented. Will you go further w/this story, describing their interactions after the “big bang” moment? ;-)

    5. =) The weekend can’t come soon enough for this new couple. I had a feeling they won’t last a week more without being intimate. It would be interesting to see how they both react when they finally consummate their relationship, when they make love to someone they deeply care about. It’s always a delight to read your posts, jks. Thanks a lot and cheers to the new beginnings in your life! =)

    6. @azmama re: Can one be considered a GF or BF in an adult relationship w/o sex having occurred? What makes one a GF/BF? In this case they said they (B&T in this story) would be exclusive/monogamous independent of whether or not they were having a physical relationship. I absolutely have had relationships as an adult where the person I was with was referring to me as his/her gf and we hadn’t progressed to a physical relationship. There was still an expectation of monogamy in both diretions (or … celibacy I guess), but in the instances I let my mind wander back to, I was certainly completely committed enough to the relationship to feel comfortable saying I was someone’s gf. People can be married and not have sex and they’re still married, so what makes someone a gf is having someone call them that, by my estimation! Although, I got to a point where the term girlfriend just grated on me and now I far prefer “partner”. azmama – always asking the pertinent and insightful questions – that’s my thought on the matter, though I’m sure there are other opinions.
