Friends ch. 54
A couple of weeks had passed and Cassandra was feeling at home in Los Angeles. Bette and Tina helped her adjust to her new home and lifestyle. The framily had no problems adjusting to Bette and Tina’s ever growing family. The girls and Alexander quite enjoyed Cassandra, she was shy at first but once she opened up, she was a little spitfire, as Shane started calling her. Time flew by because soon it was time for school to start. Their lawyer, Joyce, worked quickly on getting their papers together so they were able to register her for school. She was really excited about starting school, she had skipped a couple grades and was about to be a fourteen almost fifteen year old junior in high school.
A couple weeks before school was to start, Bette and Tina took her shopping for school clothes and registered her for her classes and they sat with the school’s dean, Dr. Emma Rothman and talked with them about Cassandra’s advancement and her life thus far. She wasn’t sure what she wanted to do after high school. Her father’s expectation of her was to work in the church, marry a nice Christian boy and have a family, just as her mother did. Here she was given the freedom to be whomever she wanted.
“Now Cassandra, I understand that your aunts have been granted parental rights over you. I also know that they’re both gay, that’s no secret. Here at Jane Cockburn Academy we have a progressive style of teaching and way of thinking. There is no hate or discrimination; we accept all our students and faculty as they are. Your aunts are very important to our school; they’ve been monetary contributors and have donated countless pieces of artwork for years and they’re good friends of mine. Angelica and their future children are guaranteed spots in our school. I know as of now I’m just a stranger but I hope one day we can change that, in any case, is there anything you wish to talk about,” she asked, Cassandra hesitated and looked at Bette and Tina who smiled and nodded their heads, “it’s ok, this is a free environment, you can tell me anything. Anything you say will not leave this room; I’m only here to help you.”
