Every Glance Speaks – Chapter 5
~ Bette Porter ~
Oh God.
I swear I left my stomach back at the bar. I’m walking away from the couple, hoping neither could tell just how unnerved I was. I ensure I’m as far away from them as physically possible before I start to process what just happened.
I never react that way. It’s not just her beauty; I’ve met beautiful women before and remained standing, but she was something else. There had been something else there.. Between us. It’s like I’ve met her before, but I guarantee I’d remember if I’d felt like this before. My heart’s beating so hard. I can’t swallow.
Why the hell is my mouth so dry?
I look down at my hands. They’re empty; In my haste to retreat from the blonde, I left my drink. Wordlessly castigating myself, I change direction; heading back to the bar I just left.
My shoulder finds contact with a warm body and I hear a glass smash on the floor nearby.
“Oh my god, I’m so sorry!” Tina’s stood before me, clearly the other participant of the collision. She looks horrified at the accident and she’s apologising copiously while holding her milky white hands to her face in embarrassment. Despite the mishap being inadvertent on both our parts, I find myself feeling overwhelmingly sorry for the woman.
She looks as if she’s about to burst into tears so without thinking, I take one of her soft, warm hands and stare her down quietly.
I fake unawareness of the gentle electricity passing between our bodies but I can see her eyes travelling to our connected area. She looks calmer now, so I speak out, never breaking my hold on her.
Her hold on me is greater.
“Your dress is soaked. Follow me and we’ll get cleaned up.” I show her what I hope is an unfaltering smile. One that I pray to God, covers up the unravelling that’s occurring internally.
I notice her hand is trembling within mine but she complies and follows me anyway. I lead her to my office where there are a few towels in a conjoining room.
I realise, as I hand her a towel, that both her hands would be needed in order to thoroughly dry herself. I reluctantly let her hand fall from my grasp and I watch her face for any sign of the same disinclination that I’m feeling. All I can see is her embarrassment still. I try to sculpt my face into something that will reassure her.

you are an amazing writer…i hope you continue soon!
Great chapter, I can hardly believe you are only 15 you write beautifully.I am so glad Bette stood up to that jerk he is so not used to women standing up to him. Now all she has to do is keep Tina away from him long enough so she will not be abused again. PPS
This is a great story and extremely well written. More please!
Hooray for Bette!!!! Now Tina needs to look up and see her destiny in Bette eyes and lips. Great job!!!!!! PPS!
Can I join your club? I have 15 years old too! xD It`s up to you if you´re mean enough to torture me! You can do that but not for that long! xD Great chapter and I hope that Bette kick`s Eric´s ass! Please post more soon! :D
Beautifully written and even more remarkable at 15. Sad to think someone can be treated so cruelly and think that they deserve it.
The dropped glass was the perfect way to move the Tibette action forward. I am confident that Bette will bring Tina back to life and dispense some Eric-directed payback at the same time.
ok he is a jackass!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! bette should kick his ass and take tina home with her
Great writing for someone as young as 15. I bow to you! Can’t wait for more.
Hey, you’re doing great! You write well, keep it coming…poor Tina, how dare he?
For one so young you have a remarkable ability and talent to weave the words. This story is very well written and your undertanding of the subject matter is quite remarkable. Brava!! PPS
Amazing. The connection is already extremely strong between Bette and Tina. I wonder when Bette will realize that it is Tina that is in that snap shot. Tina seems to bring out the softness and protective side of Bette.
Ur only 15? You’re amazing! I wish I could write like this when I was 15. Wow! PPS
Uhm, I think you have a gift in writing. Great story, PPS
WOW, Only 15 and u write so beautifully, incredible. PPS
Yeah, I’m thinking Bette might have made things way worse for Tina…

Damm Baby Girl, you are a very deep a young lady to have that protective instint kick in. I think you sound like a very wise old woman with lots of heart. Please keep going with your story and sOOOOOOOOOOOn if I may ask.Md
Uh, WOW! Your writing is so beautiful, and I can’t believe you’re only 15! You seem very wise beyond your years–maybe we should start calling you Yoda!
