Don’t Let This Be It 4

Tina had been awake for a while. Again with no sense of how much time had passed, it could have been an hour, three hours or ten minutes. She was in the same position that they fell asleep together, cradling Bette to her chest and holding her around the waist. Bette was dreaming; of what, Tina wasnt sure. Every so often, Bettes face scrunched up and she let out a small whimpering noise. The thought that her dream was scaring her just made Tina hold on tighter.

She studied every part of Bettes familiar face – Her chin, her nose, her full lips that Tina would never forget kissing, her soft cheeks and the mass of hair that would fall over it if she flinched in her sleep. Every time this happened, Tina gently tucked it back, so she could begin her study all over again.

She softly stroked Bettes hand which was curled between their bodies and slowly interlinked their fingers. Kissing Bettes forehead, she hoped she would wake up soon.

Fear crept in. What if Bette woke up and denied everything shed said last night, took it all back? Worse still, what if she didnt even remember?

Slowly, Bette stirred, sleepily burrowing her face in between Tinas skin and the pillow. As her breathing returned to normal, she opened her eyes and slowly drew back from her hiding place with a smile.

    T.

Morning, Bette, Tina whispered, pushing Bettes hair back again and squeezing her hand. Bette flexed her fingers and squeezed gently back.

I thought you were here, didnt know if you still would be..

    Im here, Tina nodded.

Bette stared at her for a long time, slowly taking in each feature she knew so well, appreciating them fully. Tinas eyes always sparkled, even so early in the morning. She nearly forgot how much she missed that.

How long have you been awake?

Dont know, Tina smiled, using her fingers to stroke Bettes waist comfortingly.

Youve just been lying here? Why didnt you try to get up? Bette asked.

I guess I didnt want to. Wanted to be here when you woke up. How are you?
