    Tina finds comfort in her new friend, Lara.

    “I’ll let you get back to making that cake then,” she said suddenly, breaking the silence that had nearly started to become awkward.

     

    “Thanks.”

     

    I turned away and started to begin preparing the new ingredients for the recipe.

     

    Lara seemed nice enough, I thought, and it’s always good to have friends where you work. Now I better get my mind straight to making that cake!

    Work kept my mind from wandering, but at night, my thoughts lingered solely on Bette. I missed her with a deep and lingering ache and I wished the days would pass by quicker so that she would be home again. Whenever she called me, we would only speak for a few minutes but hearing her voice brought me a temporary comfort.

     

    Just two more days, I told myself.

     

    Today was my forth day in the kitchen and I had finally gotten the hang of the recipes, some of which I had already learned by heart. Thankfully, I hadn’t disappointed Pierre, who had been raving about all the wonderful things he had heard about me.

     

    “What you doing after work?” Lara asked as she reached over me to grab a tin of cocoa powder, interrupting my thoughts as she always did. She amused me; it always seemed like she knew just the right moment to speak to me.

     

    “Nothing much,” I replied, “I thought of going down to town to do some shopping, then grabbing dinner and a coffee or something. Which reminds me, I have to start looking for an apartment, I doubt the Shang will house me for too long.”

     

    The Shang, a nickname I had picked up from the kitchen. Lara had fast become one of my closest friends and I was comforted to have someone to talk to.

     

    “Would you like to grab dinner with me then?” she said.

     

    “Sure, that sounds good. I could use the company.”

     

    “Great, I’ll just run home after our shift to get a quick change and I’ll meet you.”

     

    “Ok, say about seven-ish?”

     

    “Yeap.”

     

    She walked away, throwing me a quick grin.

     

    I really enjoyed Lara’s company because it seemed like we were always on the same wave length about many issues. During one of our short breaks, she had confided in me about her girlfriend who she had caught cheating; breaking up was inevitable. In exchange, I had told her about Ryan and she understood my situation with such depth I was surprised.

    1. Great chapter, I hope Bette just walks up gives Tina a hug and waits for her to explain instead of getting angry turning around and getting back on the elevator. Can’t wait for what comes next. PPS

    3. I knew that Lara was going to cause problems…just had a bad feeling something like this was about to happen…shucks! I wanted Bette to come back and sweep Tina off her feet in some grand romantic gesture. Now let’s hope she gives Tina a chance to explain…great chappie! PPS!

    4. Oh goody Bette is back. I hope that she understands that Lara is a friend and nothing more. Was the woman that Tina saw earlier with her own arms wrapped around another person Bette?

    7. I smell drama. Then again, the Bette portrayed here seems to be the understanding-not-jumping-into conclusion Bette. And if she is just that, I think Tina might fall a tad deeper into her. I know I would. Thanks for the update! pps

    8. Uh-oh. Hmmm… so the Thailand trip ended early. Does this mean Tina saw Bette outside Borders after all? If so, who did Bette have her arms around? Questions, questions… post soon, thanks!

    10. i don’t know how this one would turn out. Bette doesn’t seem uptight in this story so she may not see the hug as anything other than friendly. However Tina may have actually seen Bette earlier and misinterpret.

    11. If Tina didnt ave some bad luck she wouldnt have any luck. Maybe that was Bette that Tina saw. How will Bette react seeing Tina hugging someone else?? thanks
