    Chapter Three

     

     

     

     

     

     

     

     

     

     

    Still on the same mountain. Still thinking about the past. Still trying to figure things out. My mountain climbing sweat was cooling. I was grateful for the knit cap to cover my head. I pull the cap down over my head for a second and I try not to think about Carmen. Not working. I was thinking about her more and more lately and it’s starting to freak me out.

     

     

     

    Flash back to almost two years ago. Flash back to me just getting control of my misbegotten life. Flash to me in the mud training for an infiltration mission. Flash to Hunter yelling in my face that I was not fast enough and he didn’t care were I came from. Flash to him telling me that he didn’t care that the lady of the manor has a hard on for me. Flash to me feeling extremely interested in her again. Flash to me noticing Helena around all the time. Flash to sitting on top of her roof smoking hand made cigarettes. Counting stars with her. Not talking about Carmen. And here we go…….

     

     

     

     

     

    “What did you want to be when you grew up?”

     

     

     

    “I never thought about it.”

     

     

     

     

    “Never?”

     

     

     

     

    “No. Things like that…..it seemed like there wasn’t a choice like that for me. I always thought I would do what my family did.”

     

     

     

    “Shane they were not your family.”

     

     

     

     

     

    Shooting star goes by. We pause and watch it. It was kind of wondrous. Like something beautiful and real. Another moment went by and I kissed her. For real kiss her. Not kissing her for the sake of a feel, not kissing her to get back at my (at the time) disappearing fear of Carmen. Kissing her. Dark hair yes, older yes, but different, almost perfect the moment was. I went up to the roof to get away and little by little she crypt in. Little by little she became more and more real and more and more interesting.
