A Single Mom Meets Someone New Ch 111

Bette leaned back and took a sip of her tea. 

“Well are you going to let me in on your plan. At least then maybe I won’t have fight the urge to kill that woman.” Gillian said. 

“That woman has a name. Geri.” Bette said. 

“I know. I just a little confused at how you think playing nice is going to help you win Mom back.” Gillian said.

“That went well.” Tina said walking into her bedroom where Geri was getting dressed. 

“Tina, I can’t do this.” She said. “I thought I could do the whole wife, kids, and picket fence thing but I can’t.” Geri buttoned her shirt.

“I don’t understand. What happened? Did Gillian say something?” Tina asked. 

“No, she was polite and friendly, not at all what I expected. She was perfect, too perfect.” Geri said. 

“Then what gives.” Tina said. 

“This life, kids, the ex who everyone loves, it’s too much for me. I can’t handle it.” Geri said grabbing her shoes. 

“Too much! I told you a long time ago my kids come first.” Tina said. 

“I’m just not the right person for you Tina.” Geri headed for the door. 

“Well I’m glad you figured this out sooner rather than later.” Tina was upset.

“I’ll see you around.” Geri said and walked out. 

Tina picked up the phone.

Gillian’s phone started to ring. 

“It’s mom” She said. 

“Are you going to answer it?” Bette asked. 

“I don’t know it’s your plan. Should I answer it?” Gillian asked. 

“Go ahead.” Bette said. 

“Hello.” Gillian said. Bette could almost make out Tina’s words from a couple of feet away. “Do you want me to come over?” Gillian asked. “Okay well call me if you need me.” Gillian hung up the phone and shook her head smiling. 

“What?” Bette asked. 

“You’re good. Geri broke it off saying something about a ready made family wasn’t for her or something. I’m going to go.” Gillian stood to leave. 

“Why?” Bette asked. 

“Cause If I know Mom she’s on her way over here. I think she’s realized how big of a mistake it was.” Gillian said. 

“Okay, are you coming for dinner?” Bette asked. 

“I don’t know, I really need to hit the work out room.” Gillian said. 

“Well let me know.” Bette said. 

“I will. Oh and Bette, I completely understand if you don’t take her back. Well at least not right away.” Gillian said and left.

Gillian walked up to the bar and sat down. Grace filled her a glass of beer.

“How’d it go?” She asked. 

“Perfectly. You know Bette’s plan worked out perfectly. I don’t believe it.” Gillian shook her head. 

“So she and Tina aren’t breaking up?” Grace asked. 

“I don’t think so. Mom was on her way over there when I left. I don’t think they are getting right back together. There is probably a lot of things they need to work on first.” Gillian said. 

“Yeah, It would be nice having them back together I hate all of this tension.” Grace said. 

“Who back together?” Skylar asked. 

“Bette and Tina.” Grace said. 

“Tell me about it. I saw the gang at the planet this morning and it was kind of the elephant in the room.” Skylar said. 

“Well I’ve done my part. It’s all up to them now.” Gillian said. 

“Don’t you have practice this afternoon?” Skylar said looking at Gillian’s beer. 

“No Coach cancelled it. Tomorrow..” She said. 

“In that case you want to go to the beach today?” Skylar asked. Gillian looked at Grace as if to ask for permission. 

“Sure.” Gillian said. “What time?” 

“In an hour or so. I can pick you up.” Skylar said. 

“I’ll drive that way I can bring the surf boards.” Gillian said.

Tina walked down the ally and into the backyard. She could see Bette sitting by the pool in a bikini. It was hitting home that she had made a horrible mistake. Her only hope now was that Bette would accept her apology.
