White Lightning – (Chapter: The Naked Mile)

Spencer was coming down the stairs when she saw the sky outside darken. It had been a reasonably clear day and it had been two weeks since she’d seen the mysterious girl. Of course, she’d had a breakdown after the girl had pretty much all but disappeared into thin air in front of her. The blonde usually didn’t let things like that bother her, but for some reason the girl was sticking in her mind. The way that the spandex had clung to every delectable curve and the way her brown hair was curly but not too curly. She remembered how Ashley smelled and how her entire body had melted during the hug they’d shared. There was also the almost kiss.

If anything had stuck in Spencer’s mind it was the vision of Ashley’s lips slowly inching toward her own. She could remember the pulsating of her own heart and the sweat that had broken out across her palms. If anything she would remember that electricity that surged between them every time their skin made contact. It wasn’t the writer in her that wouldn’t let the memory of Ashley go; it was the woman in her.

The blonde had always been a romantic. She’d always known deep down that she was different, and her distinction had revealed itself in high school when Spencer had met the woman of her dreams. It was young love and it was never meant to last but it had. She and Kelly had been together every single day for four years. One day Kelly, her beautiful sweet perfect Kelly, had been on her way home and was hit by a semi truck head on. The result was instantaneous and a part of Spencer had died out there with her on old Farm Road 29. The blonde had packed up her things and fled California; she couldn’t bear the burden of the heart chilling memory that followed her everywhere. College was a blur. Spencer had always known she wanted to write, she’d been doing it since she was young. Graduating at the head of her class, she received a master’s degree in creative writing at the ripe age of twenty-one. The ambitious young woman pushed Kelly’s memory away from her and published her first book within six months of graduation. Spencer had always been running but she’d finally found a home.
