Kyla sat in silence.

“wait so.. No.. U would never do any of that! I know u Ash, you wouldn’t do any kind of drug.”

Ashley looked up at her sister. The familiar brown eyes of her sister held so many questions that she, herself wasn’t sure she wanted to answer.

“well ky I did.. I’m not saying that I’m proud of any of it. I was just stupid, ok?!”

Kyla watched her sister walk out of the room muttering to herself. She followed and saw Ashley laying on one of the couches in her room.

Spencer found herself outside of her mom and step fathers house. Her mother, Paula, had told her to be there before 4 so they could ‘catch up’ on everything. Although Spencer knew that she already knew everything. Except of course the details of her sexual orientation. Her mother assumed that Spencer had been dating a nice boy for the past few months, and spencer and Carmen had fun picking out a boy name for Carmen to tell her mother. Carmen had wanted to be named something simple like bob or chet. Spencer also told her mom repeatedly that her relationship was too new to bring her ‘boyfriend’ over. Carmen was the one to put off meeting the parents, spencer had always wanted to tell her mother that she was with a girl.

Finally spencer opened the door and walked in. At first she thought everyone was upstairs but when she felt strong arms take her in a tight hug.

“hey baby sis!”

Spencer turned around to see a tall blonde man. Matching blue eyes and a nice smile.

“Glen!! Oh my god!”

The short reunion between brother and sister was cut short when they heard a throat clearing and Paulas voice.

“Spencer.”

Glen and Spencer looked up smiling to their mother and soon saw their step-father come up behind her, which made them stop.

“well kids it has been a while” ben said smiling.

Glens face turned into a scowl.

“We are not YOUR kids, Ben.” Glen stood up pulling his sister with him upstairs passing his parents. “tell us when dinners ready.”

“GLEN!”

Paula stood at the base of the stairs hoping to stop her children. Only to be ignored by both her son and daughter.

Ben looked at his wife. “was that too much?”

Glen pulled his sister into his old room and locked the door.

“god I can’t stand him”

Spencer sat on his bed.

“he is trying glen… I know he’s not dad but he is all we have left.”

Spencer felt a tear slide down her cheek.

“I’m sorry spencer. I didn’t mean to remind u.”

Glen sat next to her taking her in his arms holding her.

“I just wish I was here when it happened..”

“It.s ok spence. Ya still got me though.”

He smiled at her and she looked at him wondering why it happened like this.. Why after what happened, did she have to find out not only her father gone, but the past 2 years as well.

Glen noticed the change in spencer and looked in her eyes.

“Spencer, it will be ok. It was almost 4 years ago. And your a lot better. Your healthy and normal again.”

Spencer looked up at Glen.

“what do you mean ‘normal again’?”

Ben and Paula were sitting at the table.

“Paula, are you sure that the kids are ok with me. I understand Spencer not liking me. After what happened to her I wouldn’t expect her to forget her father. But after 5 and a half years of being married to you, I just thought Glen would have warmed up to me by now..”

“I’m not worried about Glen. He just feels like he needs to take care of Spencer. It.z my daughter I am worried for. She’s doing so well. And she was seeing that Chet boy for 6 months. So at least she’s on the right path.”

Ben eyed his wife.

“I personally don’t think that this is the way to come at this. You shouldn’t hide it from her. It is her past that you are keeping from her. She has a right to know.”

Paula stood up quickly.

“She is not your daughter! I am her mother and I know what is best for her and ‘Her Past’ isn’t what is best!”

Ben faced Paula.

“They were engaged! She was happy! If its not her happiness that is best then I don’t know what to tell you!”

Kyla sat next to her sister unsure of what to do.

“Ash, can you please tell me. Tell me.”

Kyla pleaded with her hoping to get a response.

“there is nothing to tell. It was over. And she simply dissapeared. All I got was a lousy text message saying ‘im moving. It.s over’”

Kyla couldn’t believe what she was hearing. If she and this girl were so in love why did she leave? Why? How could she just break her sisters heart like that? She remembered when she first met Ashley, how empty and lost she was.. Also how…. Wait…

“how do you explain Jordyn then? If you were so in love with this girl so many years ago how did Jordyn happen?!”

Ashley rose from the couch and faced her sister.

“Don’t ever bring her into this! None of this!! Don’t ever bring Spencer into my-”

“mommy?”

Ashley and turned at the sound of her almost 5 year old daughter walked into the room.

“Spencer?”

Ashley nodded at Kyla then turned to Jordyn. She ran her hand through her light brown hair and looked into her crystal blue eyes that reminded her so much of who she lost.
