I woke up to the sound of my cell phone alerting me of a new text. I groan looking over at my clock seeing that it’s only 8:30. I open the text. It’s from my friend Shay. I love the kid, but she gets up way too early.

“Hey Spence, what’s up?”

I don’t respond because it’s too early to start a conversation. I fall back asleep. I’m woken up by another text at like 11:00. This time it’s Ashley.

“Good morning babe. What’s up.”

I smile, that’s one person that can wake me up whenever.

“Hey baby. Good morning. I just woke up”, I reply.

I text Shay a quick apology telling her I was sleeping when she texted me earlier.

“Oh, okay. How did you sleep” Ashley responds.

“Good I guess. Aren’t you supposed to be at church”, I ask.

“I am at church.”

“Ok, how do you get away with texting while you’re at church with your parents?”

“I don’t sit with my parent”, she says.

“Oh, okay makes sense.”

I get a text from my best friend Chelsea.

“Hey Spence, what you doing later”, Chelsea asks.

“Um, I’m going to Laura’s pool party and that should be over by 4 or 5.”, I reply.

“Wanna meet me at the square after?”

“Um yeah can do.”

“ok see you later”, she says.

“So what are your plans for today”, Ashley asks.

“I’m going to my friends pool party and then I’m meeting my friends at the square”, I say back.

“Ok, fun.”

“What about you?”, I ask.

“Um, idk yet.”

“Ok.”

“Yeah alright. Babe I have to go my dad keeps staring at me.”, she says.

“Ok, love you. Talk to you later.”

“love you too.”

I get up and walk into the living room to see my mother passed out on the couch. So typical. I just look at her shaking my head and roll my eyes. I go into the kitchen to grab a bowl of cereal. After I finish my cereal I go jump in the shower and look through my closet for something to wear. After I get dressed I go back to the living room to see my mother is up.

“You ready to take me to Laura’s”, I ask.
