The Rules of Highschool – (Chapter: Chapter Nine)
Recap
The girls went to school. Kept things as "best friends" Glen decided to be an ass. Madison got to Spencer. things like tht
Spencer pulled out her phone and decided to txt Aiden.
‘i need a favor’
‘k. name it.’
‘can i call u l8r 2nite 2explain the details?’
‘k. talk to u later spencer.’
She leaned back against Ashley’s car and patiently waited to the brunette. She put on her sunglasses and looked up at the clouds. She must have dazed off because she never heard Ashley walk up to her.
"Hey, beautiful." Ashley smiled.
"Hey, yourself." They quickly kissed and jumped in the car.
"So…I’m guessing I should take you home right away." Spencer sighed and Ashley sensed her tense up so she reached over and grabbed the blonde’s hand, intertwining their fingers.
"Yeah, I gotta face her sometime. I just hope she…I don’t really know. I just know I don’t want to argue with her over this anymore."
"It should get better. If all else fails you can always call me." She looked over to Spencer and saw her smile.
"I lo– I’m really lucky to have you."
"No, it’s me. I’m the lucky one." the rest of the ride was rather silent and soon they were in front of the house. They hugged, kissed, and Spencer walked inside. Her mother’s car was not in the driveway and she couldn’t have been more relieved.
"Spencer, honey, is that you?" Arthur called from the kitchen.
"Yeah, dad." She called back.
"Come in here for a second. We need to talk." Spencer followed her orders and walked into the aroma filled kitchen.
"Yeah, dad?"
"I heard about what happened, in the pool…" Spencer sighed and Arthur sat beside her.
"And you’re disappointed, angered, and disgusted?" Spencer cut him off.
"Not at all," Arthur let out a chuckle and Spencer gave him a confused look. "I’m glad you’ve finally accepted yourself enough to be happy. Who’s the lucky girl?" He lightly nudged Spencer with his elbow. Spencer let out a breath she hadnt realized she was holding in. And chuckled a bit.
"Her name’s Ashley, and she’s amazing. She’s so understanding. And even though probably everyone knows because of my ass of a brother, she understands keeping it on the down low for a bit. But, I’m 100% sure she doesn’t want to. I dont understand why I care so much about what people think. Why do I dad?"
"It’s just a teenage thing. But soon you have to take a risk and pray that whatever your risking is totally worth it, worth the pain, the looks, and the remarks."
"but, I know she’s worth it. Why can’t I take the risk?"
"That, Spencer, is something you have to figure out by yourself."
"I hate when you say that." Arthur laughed as he stood up and continued to make dinner. "Your mom should be home anytime"
"Great, I get to listen to her make remarks about my ‘choice’. What a wonderful way to end the day" Spencer snorted.
"Calm down, we can all talk this out at dinner. You, me, glen, and your mother. I’ll be right there the whole time. dont worry." Spencer gave him a smile as he tried to reassure her that it was going to be okay. She trudged up onto her room to get some homework done before the big ol’ family dinner.
"Spencer! Dinner’s ready!" Paula screamed from the bottom of the stairs.
Ugh, what are you lazy? Walk up the stairs instead of giving everyone a headache. Ah!
Spencer hurriedly walked down the stairs because she was quite hungry. She sat down and the family said grace. Spencer avoided Paula and Glen’s eyes and focused on her food. She could especially feel Paula’s cold stare. Arthur decided to break the tension and get this discussion handled out.
"So…yesterday when I came home…Spencer had already left and went to…"
"that girls house." Paula interupted.
"Her name is Ashley!" Spencer exclaimed.
"right…" Arthur was trying to keep it all calm. "And Glen was slamming his bedroom door because?"
"Because mom needs to take care of Spencer’s problem. I cannot have my baby sis hooking up with girls. It’s NOT right!" His last sentence was directed towards Spencer.
"There’s nothing wrong with it. Love is love, it has nothing to do with gender."
"don’t even tell me that you think you love that girl!" Paula jumped in.
"I shouldn’t even be having this discussion with you guys. You’re my FAMILY you should love me and support me NO MATTER WHAT!"
"We DO love you Spence. It’s just not healthy, you’re sick."
"Theres NOTHING WRONG WITH ME! Why cant you just accept me? Why cant you just…why cant you just let me be?!?" spencer stood up and was hysterically crying. Arthur quickly jumped up and wrapped her in a hug.
"Paula, Glen. I can’t believe you two. Whats wrong with you?"
"What’s wrong with us?" Glen said
"It’s not whats wrong with us, its whats wrong with her?" Paula continued
"Nothing is wrong with our daughter! She’s perfect the way she is and you need to accept her."
"People are going to hate her for who she is. I dont want her to go thru tht."
"You mean just like you hate her?" Arthur boldly stated.
and with tht im finished with this for now.
