The Agent – (Chapter: Why do all good things come to an end?)

    …Afternoon…

There is a routine I would follow before killing anyone, a simple routine. I would find a quiet corner in my apartment and meditate, all weapons neatly laid out before me. I would plot the kill and run through everything in my mind. I would always stay calm, pick my weapon then do the job quickly and simply.

Today was not one of those days. There was no routine. Nothing was easy. Instead I lay in an empty field, miles and miles away from any sign of civilization, spitting out blood and clutching my stomach as blood gushed from my wound. A single shot was fired; a shot that destroyed any sign of life I was experiencing. I was alive, maybe just but my heart was shattered the moment that bullet hit. I looked up my eyes flickering open and closed, trying to focus on Spencer with a gun held tightly in her hand, aimed directly at me. She was going to shoot again, I could tell by the look in her eyes. How easily our roles had reversed; how easily I had slipped up by starting to fall for girl. I laughed bitterly, clutching my wound tighter, making a pattern in the dirty sand. I was a fool, a fucking fool for love, and now I was about to pay to ultimate price: my life.

I had to fight this. This was real. This was my moment to decide whether I would be the victim or the killer. I had always been the killer. Was this now my time to be the victim? A victim of my love… a victim of the wild girl standing in front of me. I would not allow myself to believe that I was going to die and that those intimate moments spent with Spencer were going to be one of my last. I could not bring myself to believe that Spencer was a cold blooded killer just like me

I wouldn’t allow my eyes to close; I needed to watch Spencer I needed to see her pull the trigger again to make sure this really was happening.

    …Morning…

"And now you know why I did it." ‘I nodded, biting my lip as I leaned against the wall, watching Paula.’
