Singing Bridges (We All Fall) – (Chapter: I will sing a melody until the fluid starts choking me)
CHAPTER THREE
Ashley stared at the doorway where Mr. C and Spencer stood. For once in her life, Ash was speechless. She didn’t want to believe that her blond haired beauty had anything to do with what had happened to her, but she did believe it. It hurt Ashley so much to know that everyone that has ever told her that they care about her has betrayed her. Spencer specifically promised that she wouldn’t be like Ash’s mom, who doesn’t care if Ashley is dead or alive, and her dad, who abandoned Ashley when she was 6. It killed Ash to know that everyone who says they love her leaves her.
Mr. C noticed the tension in the room and the uneasiness. “Hey Ash, how are you feeling?”
Ashley looked away from Spencer’s eyes and looked at the floor, “I’m alright Mr. C. They put me on pain meds so I can’t really feel much right now.” Spencer couldn’t look away from Ashley but at the same time, she just wanted to leave and run away from the girl she caused all this pain to. Paula still held Ashley’s hand firmly in hers as mother stared at daughter. Paula knew that Spencer knew more than she was leading on. She just hoped that it didn’t have anything to do with Ashley’s pain.
Arthur looked between the two girls and finally said something, “Paula, why don’t we let the girls alone for a bit? Maybe Ashley will feel better talking to someone.” Paula looked at Ashley and Ashley nodded her head, letting Paula know that it was okay to leave. Paula shook her head but silently agreed to leave. As Arthur and Paula walked out, Paula took a good look at Spencer, silently telling her to not upset Ashley.
The girls couldn’t speak to one another, so they just looked in each others eyes, one pair begging for the truth, and the other for forgiveness. Spencer couldn’t stand it anymore and walked over to Ashley. Spence took Ash’s hand and squeezed, trying to let out her sorrow. Ashley turned towards Spence and started to speak.
“Spence, please tell me that what I think happened… really didn’t?”
“I…. I can’t Ash. I’m so so so so so sorry. I didn’t know that Madison was going to hurt you so badly.”
