    You make bath times “lots” o’fun!

    It was hot. Really, really hot. The week had been an utter disaster. First, there was the unexpected heat wave which triggered the short, but shockingly powerful thunderstorms that had randomly assaulted their small, leaking shelter. Second, was the infestation of annoying, little black ants. They started in the food bag, quickly spreading to the nearby tent, attacking the couple as they slept. After spending the last few interrupted nights arguing and scratching both women were exhausted. Spencer closed her eyes again desperately trying to block out the high pitched whining coming from the woman next to her. Quickly giving up, she turned to face her wife. "Ash, please…I know it’s hot…I know you’re tired, but honestly, I can’t take any more of your complaining today." An indignant squawk was her only response. Spencer rolled up their red, dome tent, growing more annoyed as she continued working around a small, prone body. Forcing herself to remain calm, she gently patted Ashley’s arm. "Hon, this would go a lot faster if you helped." Sweaty, mussed curls parted to reveal startlingly darkened eyes. "It’s too hot to fucking move!" Spencer smacked her wife’s head, hard. "Ow!"

    "Get up Ashley or I promise you this is the ONLY heat you’re gonna feel for a while!" Satisfied that her wife was at least attempting to sit up, Spencer grabbed her backpack and headed towards their car.

    * * * * *

    Her eyes stung. Spencer stared out of the car’s window willing herself to stop forming tears. The car bounced slightly when the trunk slammed closed. "Thank God, this week is over! I’ve never been so happy to be heading home in my life!" Ashley climbed into the car, quickly fastening her seat belt. "I’m so hungry right now…I’d even eat some of your cooking!" Instead of laughter, her joke was met with a loud sob. Shocked, Ashley felt her eyes widen as she turned to face her wife’s crumbling face. "I’m…so…sorry. This w-whole week…was a mistake!" Undoing her belt, Ashley scooted closer. Pulling Spencer to her chest, she cooed gently. "Baby, are you kidding? I mean…well…ok…the ants did suck. Hmm, the whole lack of food thing was pretty bad…and oh my God, that lightening…I thought we were gonna die!"
