Mature For My Age – (Chapter: chapter 4: Ice breaker)
Chapter 4…
“Okay, okay so I lied.” Spencer smiled.
“I know.” Ashley matched Spencer’s sly smile.
“How do y-“
“I’m not dumb Spence…I’ve seen you around King.” She laughed a little.
Spencer notice the way Ashley had shortened her name, and didn’t even want to protest. To her, it was a nice gesture. “Then what was all that hotel crap about?”
“Just messing with ya.” Spencer turned her head to the window and again, she closed her eyes. This was the most she had opened up to any one other then Glen and that’s saying allot because their conversation so far had only consisted of small banter and quick come-backs. Either way she hadn’t smiled like this in a long time.
“So…you gonna tell me how to get to your house or do I need to find you a good card board box for the night?” so with that Spencer showed her witch way to turn and what was the best short cuts, until the were five houses down from Spencer’s house. “Do you have to go home right away, or can I borrow you?” Spencer was too caught up in the frenzy out side of her home. Aurther and Paula were at it again, screaming, hitting, cussing, a public disturbance at it’s best. “Spence…Spencer?!”
“Huh? Ohh, yeah, fer sure.” Spencer figured she had saved her self from a seriously bad humiliation by passing up her house. As far as she was concerned Ashley had no idea that se lived with the two savages they were just passing.
“Wow, some people are just ridiculous.” Spencer was staring straight ahead, making sure not to draw attention to her self, so that her parents’ wouldn’t call out her name or in any way give up her sly plan.
“Yeah…no kidding.”
The rest of the ride to Ashley’s house was quiet. Spencer just figured Ashley was concentrating on driving, but little did she know, Ashley knew more about Spencer then any one else, and related to her just as much.
Ashley pulled up in front of a two story house. It was cute and had roses in the front yard and ruffled curtains in the window. Spencer could tell this was not a full house. A sort of safe haven for only three people, Ashley, Kyla, and the mostly absent Christine.
They retreated from the car at the same time but when Spencer turned back around Ashley was still beside her car door, almost frantically, she was trying to reach a spot on her back, flailing her arms around.
“What are you doing?” Spencer was stifling a laugh.
“OHH…I’m…trying to…get this sign off of my…back.” She was stopping between certain words, still trying negotiating the task at hand.
“What are you talking about, what sign?” Spencer was now making her way towards Ashley as if she was going to help her. Then Ashley stops and looked at Spencer finally making contact with her eyes.
“Ohh, you know…the sign that reads ‘Go ahead lie to me, I don’t mind.’” Her face was serious. Spencer’s face however, was shocked. She actually knew what was coming; she knew Ashley knew exactly what kind of person she was. She knew what made her tick, and she knew why she was lying. That’s what did it for Spencer; she broke down and started crying. Immediately Ashley was helping her into her house comforting her and holding her, safe.
