Let Mercy Come – (Chapter: Home)

I’ve barely had time to chain lock the front door when she enters the threshold. With a smile she makes her way to me. Arms wrap around my neck as we share a kiss, encouraged by the natural passion that burns between us.

"Ris, I missed you so much today."

Ris, her way of shortening the name she knows me by. I told you Ashley Davies doesn’t exist anymore, no, its Marissa. Marissa Roman.

    "I missed you too baby."

Our fingers intertwine as she pulls me from the threshold to our living room, where I’m forced to swallow back an angry growl at the sight I see.

"Aiden’s here!" She says in the unusually chipper voice that she some how manages to sustain even when she’s upset. Not that I mind, I spend more than enough time with Ashley Davies. When I come home its a time for Marissa Roman to surround herself with happy people.

Hayley, the girl with the unusually chipper voice, completes Marissa. She completes the small part of me that isn’t completely psychotic, the small part that people refer to as Marissa.

With talk of making dinner, she disappears down the hall.

"How many times do I have to tell you to keep your dirty paws off of my daughter?" Gently I pull the small girl from his arms, cradling her as I make my way towards her playpen.

"I’m sorry Ashley. Hayley handed her to me when she heard the door open."

So maybe Ashley Davies isn’t a complete ghost. One person knows she exists. The baby raping computer nerd, more frequently referred to as Aiden, knows because he made Ashley Davies non-existent to the rest of the world.

After setting the sleeping girl into the toy filled play pen I spin, glaring at the muscled man as I approach.

"How many times do I have to tell you not to call me that? Its Marissa, okay?" He swallows back heavily. Diverts his eyes as the fear pools out of him. Tonight, just like every other night it helps him, in ways he’ll never know. It has, and will continue to save his life more times than I care to keep track of.

If it weren’t for that constant feel of power I get whenever he’s near I would’ve done away with him a long time ago. He’s useless to me. At least now he is. I’ll admit he was pretty useful after my first few kills. Its always good to have a near genius around to help you cover up your rookie mistakes… Not that I’ve actually stopped making rookie mistakes. I mean, as much as I would like to pretend I’m a ghost in truth I’m not. My DNA, fingerprints, hair, and whatever else can be left behind is in every house I’ve ever killed in.
