It’s never about what I wanted – (Chapter: Its how it started)
It had been three days since she’d left her apartment, since she’d talked to or seen anyone, since she’d last eaten; it had been three days since her heart was ripped out of her chest.
Spencer sat in a dark corner in the back of her bedroom, listening to the nothingness around her. It had taken her almost half a day to gather the strength to pry herself from the floor in front of her front door.
She disconnected her phone sometime during her rage stage of deep loss process when the damn thing just wouldn’t stop ringing. She ignored the banging on her door, no doubt from friends and co-workers who had began to worry about her absence.
At first she just replayed the scene where Ashley had said she didn’t want her anymore over and over again. Then as the hours droned on she began to think of how all of this had started.
——
Spencer and Ashley had become fast friends from the moment Spencer started working at Ashley’s father’s advertisement dynasty. Ashley was Spencer’s and a small group of advertise tech’s supervisor. Spencer didn’t seem to mind that Ashley’s father was the boss and Ashley didn’t care that Spencer was in a relationship with another woman.
With Spencer’s help Ashley was able to get over her paranoia that people were only nice to her because of who her father was. She and the small group she worked over became a very close knit group that spent most of their off work time still in each others company.
Spencer and Chelsea were the artist, Kyla was the numbers chick, Aiden wooed the clients and Sean was the “Master of the ad tagline”.
They were one of the most successful teams at the firm. Though they were constantly having to prove themselves since everyone believed they only got the clients they did because Ashley was in charge of the group.
The group became the closest thing to a stable family that Spencer had had since she was fifteen. It was them and especially Ashley that helped her get over her messy breakup with Annie. After being together for three years Spencer had returned home late from work one night to Annie sitting on the couch with Spencer’s suitcase packed. Annie told her with no remorse that she was in love with someone else and couldn’t lie to her anymore about it. That since the apartment was in hers and not Spencer’s name that she wanted Spencer out.
