Haunting in Ohio – (Chapter: When it all began…)

I stood in the front yard looking up at the house. It was big, that was for sure but also old. Like one of those old houses you see in those creepy horror films. You know the ones I’m talking about. They seem so calm and serene in the daylight but as soon as night hits they come alive and not with the sound of music I tell ya. The box I was holding under my arm was starting to slip, so I hoisted it back up. It wasn’t my idea to move to this stupid town in the middle of the stupid year. Yes I was mad that we had to move but my mother got a better job position with higher pay so she saw it as a given to pack up and leave. I hated it. I was in my junior year, in Los Angeles no less, and very happy with how my life was. Now it’s being all rearranged. I had to leave high society to rot away in this stupid town of Athens, Ohio.  My name is Spencer Carlin and I had the perfect life back In L.A. I had a beautiful girlfriend, who I had to leave, a good group of friends, and a house that wasn’t creepy. It couldn’t have gotten any better. Now it’s all like a distant dream. As I fumed about my situation internally, my brother Glen came up from behind me carrying a box just as I was.

    Glen: It’s nice isn’t it?

I looked to him as if he had two heads.

Spencer: Yeah if you like having your covers pulled off your feet at night by the thousands of ghost that live in the attic.

    I said and he laughed.

Glen: This place is nice and it’s not haunted. I asked mom before and she said its not.

He said so sure of himself. Well if that house wasn’t haunted then I wasn’t gay and trust me I’m very gay. My mom then ventured up and took a stand next us. She sported a bright smile and it was a nice change for once. Since my parents divorced a couple of months ago, my mom always seemed so lost. She would bury herself in her work and most likely so she wouldn’t have to actually deal with reality. My father cheated on her and when she found out she kicked him out. I was standing next to her, rooting her on. Don’t get me wrong I loved my father with all my heart and he was good to me but what he did to my mom was utterly unacceptable.  So when my mom gave Glen and me the choice of choosing where we wanted to live, we picked her hands down. Although she worked a lot, she always made time for us. Her motto was family first, something my father wouldn’t know anything about. I guess his motto was slut first, wife and kids as an after thought.
