      “Now call her back and apologize for being such an ass.  I’ll be back in an hour.”

     

    I key the number into her phone and stare at it.  I lay back on my bed contemplating whether I should call her.  I know I am wrong to have taken it out on her.  Check that, I know I am wrong to be mad at all.  Who cares if they talk and get along?  That is a good thing, but I still can’t help the jealousy.  I swallow hard and press the send button.  I become more nervous as I hear ringing on the other end.

     

    “Hello?”  I can hear the annoyance in her voice.

     

    “Hey.” 

     

    “What?”  I know if I had called from my phone that is how she would have answered in the first place. 

     

    “I’m sorry.  I should not have reacted like that before.”

     

    “Okay.”

     

    “I was just upset; it seemed like I was the only one who had not talked to you yet.  And of course it didn’t help that Danielle kept saying how you liked her better and how you were replacing me with her.”

     

    “And when did you become the insecure type?”

     

    “I don’t know.”

     

    “You know you can’t be replaced.”  I smile, not realizing how much I needed to hear that.  There are a couple moments of comfortable silence.

     

    “So….a stuttering, obsessive compulsive, huh?”

     

    “OOOHHH MY GOD!”

     

    We talk for several hours about everything and nothing.  When Danielle returns, she gives me the thumbs up, before going to bed.  At four a.m. there, she decides that she has had enough and we say our goodbyes.  I fall asleep thinking about her.

     

    Over the next couple of months we do not talk much, because of conflicting schedules and the time difference, but we keep in touch through email and instant messages.  Weekends are a haze of drinking and drugs.  I negotiate a contract with myself that if I work hard enough on school days, I can let loose completely on the weekends.  I had worked too hard to get here and I am not going to flush it down the drain.  Dani is a party animal though and is in school on her parents’ dime so she really doesn’t care, which makes concentrating that much more difficult.  Before I know it, midterms come and Thanksgiving break is right around the corner.  I have not even heard from Spencer in almost three weeks, but I am swimming in work and I am sure she has twice as much.  As I sit at my computer typing a paper, Dani busts into the room.

    11. i really like the dani girl… weird, but she is funny.I think spencer is hiding something, or maybe she is just busy, Ash seems worried that theya re drifting apart, but not too worried, I think it’s the same for spencer but we can’t really see her point of view so it’s more difficultI would love for spencer to have soemone and get ashley jealous…
