Good With You – (Chapter: Friday)

Spencer arranged for us to go have lunch at a bistro on the main street in town on Friday afternoon after her classes had ended at 4 p.m.  I was oddly anxious though I didn’t know why.  It would be nice to have a normal friend in a normal town at a normal school.  My life up until now had been anything but normal.

I had spent half of the afternoon searching for the right thing to wear.  I didn’t want to look too relaxed but on the other hand I didn’t want to look like I’d put in too much effort.  Glancing at the time I quickly grabbed my purse and double checked myself in the mirror and made my way out to my car.  When I pulled up Spencer was standing outside on the sidewalk, smiling as I pulled up.  She had an addicting smile, I thought.   She was not dressed in her usual professional attire which would surely change the dynamic between us from adviser and student.

We walked in and sat down across from one another.  I couldn’t help but smile as she commented on how nice I looked.  “You look nice out of your professional clothes” I mentioned, soon realizing how wrong it sounded when Spencer started laughing.  “Oh my god!  You know I didn’t mean it like that!  I meant you look good in normal clothes as well as your work clothes.”  I was blushing furiously at this point.  Once we’d calmed from laughing we put in our orders and continued talking.

“So what group were you into in high school?” she asked.

“I wasn’t.  I was barely even at school.  My dad’s in a band so I tried to hang with him as much as possible.  He played at prom.  Were you there?”

    “I wasn’t allowed to go.”

“Ouch.  Bad kid or what?”  I laughed knowing that couldn’t be the case as straight laced as she seemed.

    “No, my parents were strict.”

“Is that why you said that you were trying to get away from your parents?”

“Well that’s a bit more of a personal matter.”  Her demeanor seemed to change at the mentioning of her family.

“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to bring up a bad topic.”  We were saved from the moment when our food came.  We thanked the waitress and as I started to take a bite of my sandwich Spencer began to talk.  “I went to UCLA my first year.  My parents dropped by to visit me and found out that I’d been in a relationship with a girl.  They totally caused a scene and basically cut me off, so I got a scholarship up here and I haven’t looked back.”

“Oh wow.  I’m sorry to hear about that.  Are you still with her?”

“No we broke up when I moved.  I haven’t even been on a date since.  I hope it doesn’t freak you out.”

“No way, not at all.  I’m not altogether opposed to relationships with girls, but I’ve never been in one.  I haven’t been in a relationship since college either.”

    “That sucks.”

“Not really.  I’ve just not really been interested in anyone since.  I’ve been busy on the road with my dad so I haven’t had time for it.”

“Oh I see.  But now you do?”  She asked quizzically.  Could she really be interested?  This little get together had taken an interesting turn.

“I suppose I do.  Why?  You know anyone who’d be interested?”  I laughed.

“Oh come on.  You’re a daughter of a rock star.  You’re funny.  You’re pretty.  There’s just one problem.”

I cocked an eyebrow, “what’s that?”

    “You’ve got a dirty mind.”

    “I do not!”

    “Wanna go for a ride?”

    “Are you offering?”

    “See!  Dirty mind!”

“You don’t know the half of it.”
