From the Beginning – (Chapter: Chapter 9: How to Deal)

Lunch couldn’t come fast enough for Spencer. Everything was so exciting and new, especially the way she felt whenever she was with Ashley. Those feelings seemed to be taking over her every thought.

When the bell finally rang for the break, Spencer jumped out of the chair so eagerly she sent her books and pens flying onto the floor around her.

As she sauntered down the hall towards the caf, Spencer started to replay the conversation she and Ashley had earlier that morning with Madison. She couldn’t shake the feeling that there was a hint of truth in the words.

Spncer hugged her books to her chest as the entered the caf, scanning the crowd for any sign of Ashley. Then she saw her.

The curve of her body through the tight jeans she was wearing and just a little too much cleavage for a high school setting, a smile crossing her face as she spotted Spencer and made her way across the room to meet her.

She flipped her hair over her shoulder unneccessarily, just for the effect as she came within reaching distance of Spencer.

Spencer averted her eyes to the floor, realizing she had probably been staring and glanced in the direction of Madison, who had made herself quite at home at a table next to Glen.

Fear coursed through her, was Madison going to tell Glen what she suspected about her and Ashley? She wasn’t even sure Madison knew Glen was her brother.

Looking back to Ashley, Spencer began to blush. Random images from Saturday night crossed her mind ever time she looked into her eyes. It took all of Spencer’s will not to kiss her then and there, but she knew what the concequences of that could be.

"So, what’s for lunch?" Spencer nudged Ashley in the ribs with her elbow.

"I was hoping to have some Spencer," Ashley whispered so only the two of them could hear. Spencer shot her a look.

"But I’ll settle for the menu item of the day."

They grabbed a table in the very back where few people were seated so they could talk without being overheard.

"So, ask away. I know you have been thinking about what Madison said to you. Just remember that I have known her a long time, and she has always been a bitch." Ashley turned her gaze to the mound of spaghetti on her plate, fiddling with it but not eating.
