From a Whisper to a Scream – (Chapter: Hallway Hindering)

Glen slammed his locker shut only to find that Madison’s smiling face replaced it.  From a few feet away, Spencer watched as her brother’s reaction.  Wow, I think he actually grimaced.  Well, it’s about time.  Madison’s like a bad foot fungus.  Regardless of how Spencer thought that he seemed to react, Glen still turned on his charm and slipped his arm around her back and walked her away.  Spencer shook her head and sighed.  Turning back to her locker, she started to get the books necessary for her next class when her thoughts were interrupted.

“So, get lost lately?”  Spencer jumped, startled.  again…  She was actually starting to get familiar with her own reactions to this girl.  She looked at Ashley, tilted her head, and smiled.

“Why are you talking to me?”  She delivered it with a dead pan expression, and Spencer felt pleased with herself when she noticed that the question caught Ashley a little off guard.  Ashley’s face seem to turn into a really big smile.  One of those nervous smiles, where the person looks like it’s Christmas morning, but it is really just an attempt to hide the surprise felt inside.

You’re not fooling anyone, Ashley Davies.  I’ve used this tactic countless times with my parents.  It’s the perfect way for you to stall while looking for the best response, and usually the person to whom you are speaking has no clue that there is no response yet in your mind.  Unlucky for you, I know exactly what’s going on here…

Spencer’s thoughts were entertaining her, as was the smiling face in front of her.  She wanted to laugh, but instead she just stood there with raised eyebrows waiting on the response.

“I talk to you.  I talked to you the other day when you went all crazy person laughing at the voices in your head,”  Ashley finally responded, smile still in place.  Aww.. she’s blushing.. she is human…

“You only did that because it was the perfect opportunity for you to make fun of me.  Oh, and there are no voices in my head.  I just sometimes find things funny, and I laugh.  That is a normal thing,” Spencer said.  She had crossed her arms in an effort to protect herself from the Ashley vibe that had previously rendered her confused and speechless.
