I never really had a second thought of what it would be like to go back to school, especially as one of the most feared predators of all time.

Nevertheless, with Edward at my side things were a lot easier, although the staring was a lot to get used to. However, who wouldn’t want to stare at the god like creature who dominated their hallways. I could feel all their eyes following us down the hallway as we approached the lunchroom. It did not take long for me to find my other family members amongst the wave of students entering the hall. Alice smile and came bounding over to us gracefully and pecked me on the cheek.

“So how is your first day back?” She asked entwining her arm with mine.

“Alice. Do you really need to ask?” I said beaming at her

“I know, but it is much more fun when you tell me” She smirked

“See there was no fatalities in Maths today little sister” Chuckled Emmett

“No there wasn’t big brother” I grinned

I sat down, nestled up close to Edward, and propped my head onto his shoulders. His skin no longer felt ice cold to me; it felt warm and soft against mine. He twisted my hair round his fingers, smiling as it sent those same old shivers down my back. He flashed a glowing smile down at me as he felt me shudder beneath him.

Across from our table, I saw Amber materialize out if the masses of students flowing through the doors. She waved frantically in our direction, sending Emmett into fits of chuckles over her thrill of spotting us. I punched Emmett in the shoulder as I waved back slowly. Edward waved over at her smiling. However, his smile was not the sweet and kind smile I loved so much but it was full of remorse and sadness as he turned his head from Amber.

Edward what is wrong? Is there something you are not telling me about Amber?”

“Bella, My love. Amber has suffered a great deal of hardship throughout her life and many I cannot comprehend myself. She lost both her parents in a bizarre and tragic house fire when she was young. She does not remember a great deal about them or about the fire but many people who do remember have told her that it was out of the ordinary, as there was no pinpoint as to where the fire was started. No evidence, nothing. It just appeared and took her parents lives.”

“Oh Edward, that poor girl. She must be hurting so much. How can somebody lose someone like that, so quickly and with no memories or any justice so she can rest her parents’ souls and her own in peace?”

Edward held me tighter. If only I could cry. I would cry the tears Ambers must cry every night in her room, as she tried to figure out why it he family was taken from her and what she could do to ease her pain and make it go away. I wanted to go and hold her and tell her everything was going to be ok, tell her I was here and I would never leave her. But I could not do any of those things. I couldn’t be the only friend she has. I couldn’t be the shoulder to cry on when she was became scared or lonely. I was the one person or thing in her whole world she had to stay away from. As with one wrong touch, I could easily kill her through my brute strength or through my eagerness of her smell. I was too dangerous to be around, a friend she did not need to be around
