    Cruise Control – (Chapter: Eight)

“Wow…” Spencer said, frowning slightly. “…I ask you to take me somewhere, and you take me to the beach?”

Ashley chuckled as she parked the car. “Well, yeah.” She said, shrugging. “It’s quiet and peaceful here…” Spencer scoffed.

“At the beach?” Spencer shook her head. “It’s loud and crazy.” Ashley shook her head, getting out of the car.

“Look at your watch Spence. What time is it?” She said. Spencer quickly looked down at the watch on her wrist.

“10:30.” Spencer said, shrugging. “What’s your point?”

“Look around.” Ashley said as she gestured towards the beach. “No one’s here this time of night.” Spencer looked around in realization.

“Oh.” She said, blushing. “I knew that.” Ashley chuckled.

“Sure you did. Come on…” She said, holding her hand out for Spencer to grab. Spencer grabbed it and Ashley led her to the edge of the water. They both sat down.

“So how are you feeling?” Ashley asked, looking at Spencer.

“Right now, I’m actually feeling pretty good.”  Spencer said, looking down shyly. Ashley raised her eyebrows.

    “Really? How so?”

    Spencer shrugged.

“I don’t know…I mean a lot of stuff has been going on lately…but right now, I’m not thinking about any of it.” Ashley nodded, understandingly. “And…” Spencer continued. “…I kind of have you to thank for that.”

Ashley looked confused for a moment.

“Me?” She asked before shaking her head. “I didn’t do anything.” Spencer nodded her head as she smiled.

“Exactly. You haven’t done anything to me…you’re drama free.” Spencer said as she stared up at the sky, still lying beside Ashley.

“Wow, that’s the first time I’ve heard that.” Ashley chuckled. “Usually I’m accused of bringing drama.” Ashley’s breath caught as Spencer rolled over, bringing them closer together.

“I don’t think so.” Spencer said, staring at Ashley as Ashley continued to stare at the sky. “If anything, you make me forget my drama.”

Spencer almost moaned when Ashley unconsciously licked her lips.

“Hang with me a little longer, you’ll see.”

“I guess I’ll just have to wait and see then.” Spencer said, playing with strands of Ashley’s hair.

They sat in silence for a while. Spencer lay on Ashley’s shoulder, tracing small circles on Ashley’s stomach. Ashley tried hard to control her breathing. Spencer immediately froze when she felt Ashley’s fingers run through her hair.
