Calculus is for Lovers – (Chapter: Chapter 3)

    Oh.  Shit.

    “Spencer?  Are you there?”

Quick.  Say something, anything.  Open your mouth, Carlin, and join the land of the living!

“Ashley.  Hi,” I choked out.  I’m sure my eyes were as big as saucers.  My heart was galloping like a runaway horse.

“Hey, sorry for calling so late.  I know I told you to call me tomorrow but I have class all day tomorrow so I figured I’d just call you now.  What time did you want to meet?  I was thinking sometime tomorrow evening.”

“Right.  Sure.  Um,” I quickly scanned my weekly planner, although we both know I would have postponed a meeting with the Dalai Lama for her.  Because of the importance of calculus homework.  Not because she’s special to me or anything.  Right.  “Um how about 6?  We can meet in the lobby of the library if that works for you.”  Obviously it works for her, she suggested the library.  Ugh.  I’m such an idiot!

“Yeah sure, 6 sounds great.  I’ll see you then!  Have a good night, then,” she said sweetly.

“You too.  Goodnight.”  I heard her hang up the phone, but for some reason I was still sitting there dumbfounded with the phone up to my ear.  Staring at the wall with the phone to my ear.

I really need to get a grip.

The next morning I woke up about half an hour before my alarm went off and jumped out of bed.  Usually waking up for 8am class is not a fun game for me, but for some reason I was full of energy this morning.  I then remembered that I had a meeting with Ashley that evening.

I hopped in the shower and then proceeded to make myself look presentable, not really knowing why I bothered.  I’m definitely not unattractive, but for class I usually wear a sweatshirt and jeans, pull my hair into a cute ponytail and call it a day.  I definitely prefer being comfortable.  This morning was different.  There was makeup and girly clothing to be had, along with perfume and jewelry.  I don’t usually get this dressed up for Dylan unless we’re going somewhere nice.  I must really be off my rocker.
